Forums - Gaming - GTA Online has generated at least $500million in revenue with microtransactions

And this is why microtransactions are here to stay.

And why we'll probably never get SP DLC for GTA V, just doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

Wow. They could just use a great big portion of the microtransaction profits alone to fund GTAVI. That's kind of astounding.

GTA6 free to play confirmed :P

I know you're joking, but making GTA Online in its current form f2p and just adding new content monthly and adding the maps from the new games wouldn't even be such a bad idea. Maybe even re-release it with updated graphics, physics etc. every time a new game comes out but let players keep all their cars, characters, money and stuff.

And when gamers bitch why more games are having microtransactions...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Would actually be really cool if Microtransaction funded and allowed for free episodic dlc. Of course no game dev is that kind...

Why doesn't it make sense? It would undoubtedly make money, plus the inevitable GOTY edition of GTAV + DLC would also sell even more copies.

Option 1: re-skin and tweak already existing content, release it as new content and make loads of money with GTA Online while most devs can work on other projects (what they're currently doing)

Option 2: put an entire development team on GTA SP DLC instead of other projects to spend millions on development and not make nearly as much as GTA Online does

Option 1 is the right option for a business every day of the week.

People always talk about how the big mobile games generate amazing revenue, but seeing this I don't think the AAA games are that far off. Certainly Fifa must be doing big numbers and CoD recently added microtransactions as well.

Difference is the AAA games make tons of money before the DLC and microtransactions.

I wonder how much revenue GTA V has now generated, $5 billion? Biggest entertainment product ever.

Gta v has to be one of the games with more on disc content, so in this case it doesn't bother me at all

And this right here is why your not getting your single player DLC.

Pretty much, their online aspect of the game is clearly making them a ton of money with the added micro trans and dlc, makes me wonder if they will even bother with a single player GTA in the enxt few iterations because their online section is making them far more money and being played the most by the looks of the data they provide.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Well GTA is one of the most successful games out there, if not the most successful.
