I would rather have  them cancel it, instead of dangling the carrot and continue their misleading way. What they've said in their forum is not good enough. "We're waiting for a new console announcement, if not we'll may give it a try" sentiment is an insult especially in light to all the stuff they've said last year. And especially when they've alluded that they only need a bit more time to finish the Wii U version.

This is what they said when they cancelled the 7th gen versions.

“Project CARS has always led the pack in terms of insane detail. Whether that’s graphically in the craftsmanship of our cars and tracks, technically in the way we’ve approached weather and time of day, or emotionally in how each car feels and responds to your touch. These powerful new platforms allow us therefore to not compromise on the quality of our vision and ultimately that means players are going to experience something truly breathtaking when they get behind the wheel.”

Before that the Wii U version was a no brainer and could easily be done. But once the the PS4 and XB1 become the new common denominator everything changed. The game they hoped to release around 2013 (yes 2013) and what they released now must be completely different. They announced the Wii U (and PS3/360 versions) too soon, before the PS4 and XB1 were even announced. Goals shifted, requirements changed, and the Wii U couldnt keep up. Its that simple. But they acted in good faith throughout. Theres nothing malicious. Nothing sinister. Think about it.

You create a thread titled "The lies of Slightly Mad (Project Cars)", quote an article from a year and a half ago, and then contribute nothing more than a "No comment"?

Quality thread, OP. Why not just post your "No comment" in this thread?
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=203293
Edit: Actually, it looks like you did.

It's clear from this article and from the article in the above thread, that they really wanted to create a quality Wii U version of their game. They even say in the article you posted above "We could reach a fairly solid 30FPS but it might take a hell of a lot of work.". A year and a half months ago they acknowledged it was going to be difficult to achieve this. In the end, they just weren't able to make it happen. This doesn't make them liars.
EDIT: I see that the "30FPS" comment is not from the first article, but from a more recent article. Doesn't really change anything. They thought they could achieve 30FPS, but in the end they just couldn't make it work. This happens all of the time in development.

I'm not sure if you are reading things correctly...

In the first article, the studio implied that the game was delayed to 2015 because they needed a little more time to finish up the game.

Now, they've revealed that they are not even half way and are uncommited to the project because they are "hoping" for a new console announcenment.

It's quite clear that they've been leading people on a wild goose chase.

They werent lying, they finished up the game on the PS4 and XBox One and hit a brick wall on the Wii U. Which they then told you about, the opposite of lying.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

I'm baffled people are giving the deceitfulness of the studio a free pass. Yes the Wii U is not powerful to handle the game to a standard. But the overpromising, constant misleading rhetoric and the rudeness is something they should be accounted for.

"The Wii U is underpowered" is a red herring detracting from the real issue present.

Exactly. It leaves me completely dumbfounded as well when I see people condoning the behavior of these devs in general.

No-one bats an eyelid when Nintendo is on the receiving end.

Oh please, there are two threads on this with almost 400 responces and most of them are complaining about what's happened, and I don't necessarily blame them.  Also, by and large I don't think most are condoning slightly mad, they just understand that the circumstances surrounding the game changed.

They have been lying all this time, they knew they can´t time ago, lying is an evil think in my book.

*Sigh*

A lot has changed since 2013 and now. The PS4 and XB1 werent even annnounced yet. People thought the PS4 would have 4GB of RAM. People thought the XBox 720 would have a 6670HD as its graphics card. Others were expected 4TF GPU performance...... EVERYONE WAS WAY OFF!!

The game was still coming to the 360 and PS3 at that point in time. Back then a Wii U port would be easy pickings. Everything changed in 2014. You are looking for lies when the truth is clear for everyone to see.

Could you read the OP again and repeat me that I´m finding lies where there aren´t??

Because they are obvious as hell.

I´m sure they knew this a year ago.

Again. They werent lying. They delayed the game to polish it up. They finished the game on the PS4 and XBox One and hit a brick wall on the Wii U. Despite all their efforts they cant get better performance and will have to cut content. Alternatively they can keep everythig intact and release a definitive version on next gen hardware. They've told you everything, plain and simple, in black and white. Doesn't sound like lying to me, quite the opposite in fact.

They are a bunch of liars and the ones saying the opposite are either not well documented about the topic or just blind. Because really, if at one point they say that they are implementing a lot of awesome effects on the Wii U version like particle shadows and that despite the technical difficulties the Wii U can move the game just fine without mentioning any problem with the performance at all and now suddenly the say the console can't run the game... c'mon, it's so damn obvious they're lying!
  • The game was suppossed to release in 2013, on the 360, PS3, Wii U and PC.
  • Developement shifted to the PS4 and XB1 in 2014.
  • The game came out in 2015.
  • The Wii U cant keep up with a game that taxes even the PS4.

Is this really a surprise?  People are being way too emotional here.

That was all in 2013!!! Before they knew the specs of the PS4 and XBox One. Before they knew just how close (or far behind) the Wii U would be from the new standard "lowest common denominator" consoles.

That was in October 2013 and by that time the specs of PS4 and One were well known if I remember correctly. And even if that's not the case, that doesn't answer why they didn't show ANYTHING of the Wii U version in all this time. Not when PS4 and One did not exist and the game was supposed to run just fine on the system and not after their launch when oh, suddenly it looks like crap.

They key point here is the PC version has always existed. The PC version has always looked awesome. Their intention with any other platform was downscale form there to the necessary extent of every platform. Changin PS360 for PS4 and One does not change the main version (PC) so Wii U should not be affected at all.

Really? Can't you see the bullshit in their rhetoric? It went from "we just a little more time to finish the game" to "we are not even half way and are uncommitted." They lied the first instance and are just now opening up to the reality of the situation. Even now, instead of owning up and making a firm decision to continue or cancel, they continue to dangle the carrot. If they are brutally honest, just cancel the game and apalogize to those who backed the game, instead of being rude and unprofessional.

You are falling into their lies because you are not being affected by them.

OBVIOUSLY someday they had to tell the truth, because some day they have to release the game, so they do that a few months before the release.

There was people here predicting this all the time, I was sure the game was gonna come (I failed), but some people were saying that they didn´t knew how to get rid of the game, they didn´t want it, but they didn´t want bad press, so they first release the game everywhere else and then, little by little they start saying that there is problems, that maybe is not possible, that maybe is better for NX.... and then they drop the support and they are happy again.

That´s what happened at the end, I should have been more pessimistic.

It went from "We think we need more time to get it working on the Wii U" to "We're having problems making it run properly on Wii U even after spending more time with it".

See, there's a positive way to spin it all as well. -__-

I can see why he would say the Nintendo crowd is difficult to deal with. It's always damned if they do, damned if they don't.

You have to understand Slighty Mad Studios.

Imagine if they would release Project Cars on the Wii U @ 720p/25fps, or worse 480p/30fps. Nintendo fans would complain till the end, there would be tens of threads around here saying how Slighty Mad Studios are lazy and liars, etc.

At the end of the day, the game would flop just like like Watch Dogs flopped.

I was looking forward to getting this on the Wii U since it doesn't have many racing sim games on it. I didn't give anything to the kickstarter so I can't complain but I really feel bad for those who did support the Wii U version to only have their money used for the PS4 and Xbox One versions instead. What they did is uncalled for and the trust that people, who supported the Wii U version, had for indie gaming companies may be damaged because of their unfilled promises.
