September is important for them, from the boss' mouth. |
So, we can expect them to openly come out after September's NPD and proudly announce 9th consecutive loss?

Can't see it if they sell 50% or less of PS4's number.

September is going to be interesting. I think that's why they are pushing so many special promotions (these are always reimbursed by the console makers btw), it's aggressive moves trying to counteract the PS4 Destiny bundle. For months now that bundle has been steadily building large numbers of preorders, and all that is cashing in this month.
Then you have many hundreds of thousands of new PS4 owners excitedly playing an epic multiplayer release right on the dawn of the fall/holiday season. These people will be on twitter, facebook, game forums, at the game shops & schools all networking for the PS4, whether or not they even realize how important they are. THAT should really scare Microsoft, because PS4 will look like the 'winner' console to get, where all the players and action are. Just like the 360 was most of last gen in the US. So September will lead us into a very tough Oct/Nov/Dec showdown with the big multiplats dropping.
I don't expect them to publish September numbers because I believe the gap will be massive. The only reasoning to publish them is that I believe global numbers will exceed 3:1 easily for the month, and if the US is only 2:1 or a little less, then that looks better to focus on. But that's a long shot. Expect more silence/spin on NPD.

For instance. If they don't "forget", why are Sony gamers walking around with victory flags drawn when last gen, Xbox 360 was killing PS3 in sales before getting overtaken in weekly, monthly and then finally, overall sales? You'd think they'd temper themselves a little bit. Hell, even the SNES was losing until year three so it's happened more than once in this industry. |
360 was never "killing" PS3 in sales. The reason it had a few million lead for so long was due to launching one year earlier. Other than that their sales were always quite close.
Compare that to the current situation where PS4 is outselling One by at least 3:1

IMO, it killed it in the USA.

Yeah but that never changed, which is what prayformojo was getting at
The One and Only
They published numbers for January - april.

After april I can not find any official MS reports on NPD numbers.
In 2013 they published NPD numbers most months.
