Forums - Sony Discussion - TLOU Dev Fires Back At Those Who Feel $50 Is Too Much For PS4 Version “It’s a Steal”

Wasn't Naughty Dog recently talking about how they made everything higher res initially, then downgraded it to what could run on the PS3?

I actually thought a "make higher res" button was what they did here.

Now i wish i could source that article...

That's actually what Nintendo did for Wind Waker...

Never read anything like that for The Last of Us. But it wouldn't be surprising if they did that. Since that's pretty much how most do it.

I remember Naughty Dog saying that the engine TLOU ran on is built for the PS4, so you're right.

That's complete bullshit. It's not a bargain. A remaster of a year old game is not worth $50, no matter how you slice it. $40, and then we'll start talking. It has nothing to do with it being a good game or not. The market value of the original is already down to $30 new. Remastering it does not suddenly add $20, 66%, to it's value. Neither does adding DLC.

How adding 30-40$ (not sure how much LB and Season Pass are going for) worth of DLC not adding value?

Do you seriously think that DLC maintains it's value ? And then there's other games that also release GOTY additions, because that's essentially what this is, with $50-$60 worth of DLC included for, for $30-$40. Adding all the DLC only justifies it being worth more than just $30. Improved graphics and framerate a year later doesn't suddenly make a game worth more. Do you see Destiny costing $70 on the PS4 because of better visuals? No. So then why the hell would that change a year later.

TLOU is currently worth $30 new without DLC. Because this is a year later, it's gets a pass on being at most $40 because it's adding DLC. You don't suddenly get to be another $10 more just because you're a "remaster."

If the original TLOU was released at the PS4's launch, they'd both be sold for $60 with no DLC. The same price. One superior. One inferior. Just like with XBO and Titanfall. Then the DLC would come out. Jump to right now, they'd do the same thing, call it TLOU: GOTY Edition, and sell it for $40 with all the DLC included, because THAT'S what it's worth.

The only reason it's being sold for more is because of the percieved value of it being prettier, not the included DLC which is the only true value added to this game.

Before trying to sound clever and going into the discussion like this, please learn the difference between a cross gen port and a remaster of a game (that still retails for 60$) with all the DLC included.

And given that 66% of the DLC is Multiplayer, IT DOES add the value indefinitely, provided that you play the multiplayer

Clever? Do you seriously think that a one year "remaster" of a last gen game isn't a cross gen port? Do you seriously think that if they were both released at the same time, that the PS4 version would not have as much work put into it as it currently has and not look exactly the same as it does now?

And, once again, the current market price for TLOU PS3 is $30 new, NOT $60. It doesn't matter if the DLC is included. All of the DLC was valued, by Sony, at $20 one whole year ago. The same way the value of TLOU has gone down by 50%, it's more than safe to assume that the value of the DLC has gone down by 50% as well. 30+10 = 40. Marketing jargon like "remaster" means jack shit just like "GOTY Edition" and "Director's Cut."

You know why Halo gets away with it's $60 Master Cheif Edition? Because all four games, even at their decreased value, are worth more than $60 together. And because every game in the bundle is over one year old.

If you're going to buy the game, that's you're prerogative, but all it's "stealing" is an extra $10 from your wallet.

Um. Where exactly can you buy a TLOU Season pass for $10?

You can't, but if it was being sold at retail, do you seriously think it would still be sold for $20?

and how many times has a Halo remastered being produced?

isnt this the 3rd, fourth time?

name me another remaster from Naughty Dog ever? since everyone loves to complain...this is bullshit and you know it. this isnt the only remaster coming out. But people just want to complain about this one.  Maybe because it is a lauded game or it is because they will never have it on their favorite system. No other thread about windmaker or GTAV or Tomb Raider or Halo but TLOU gets a 200+ thread of dudes whining about a product, they claim to have absolutely no interest in....if you dont fancy it vote with your money but remeber this game is one of the most preorder games on the market. with or without you Naughty Dog will make money and they derserve it.

season pass is gone you cant get it for $20 anymore have to get everything separately

If this was released on PS3 as a GOTY edition for $50, no one would have battered an eyelid. Naughty Dog do a tonne of work porting it across to PS4 and improving textures, models, res, framerate and tweak the gameplay, and suddenly $50 is a rip-off and cash grab.

Agreed.
