Congratulations, you have just discovered the whole point of this thread.
That is indeed how PS+ is supposed to work.
But it is not how it will work with regards to the Driveclub PS+ upgrade option:

I see no problem just buying the retail version for full price. You don't need PS+ for that right?? correct me if I'm wrong. lol
I think what it comes down to is that the word "upgrade" was a bad term for Sony to use, since what it seems like you're actually doing is buying $50 of DLC for the light version of the game. It's bad messaging but I don't think people need to worry about any "dangerous precedents" being set since it falls in line with how DLC works in relation to PS+ games (and all games for that matter, if you don't have the base game then you can't use the DLC for it). They just need to be clearer that you're purchasing DLC and not a game.
The one difference then is that if you let your PS+ subscription expire, then the only way to get the base game (so that you can use the $50 DLC you paid for) is to resubscribe to PS+. So they should probably let people buy the light PS+ version for $5 - $10 just so it brings it in line with how all other games work.
Also the difference between this and the Microsoft situation is that Sony are adding options while Microsoft were trying to take them away (or rather change the existing options to less preferable ones).

the problem is this sets a precident for future. we all know tha game devswant us to go full digital in the future. when that happens you will not have control of your software, instead you will be paying high rental fees,

What's to stop Sony from calling whatever they want on PS+, DLC? Absolutely nothing, its stealth DRM, maybe not as intense as that of MS, but the end user only purchases a license from Sony from this so called DLC.
Its not even equivalent to the full game, so they shouldn't advertise it as the full drive club experience.
All they need to do is "flip a switch" and remove the PS+ requirement, make it a 10$ discount for plus subscribers, like previous games before it. The Discounts and free games alone have been enough, not locking access to the game behind the pay wall, its disingenous.

You mean to tell me the twitter of the President of Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment is completely irrelevant to a thread in the Sony Discussion subforum that concerns an issue with a game on PS+?
You can't even consider asking Yoshida for clarification, you do realize you've basically invalidated every argument against defenders of any system right?

I'm saying the problem is that they're NOT calling it DLC. They SHOULD call it DLC because that's essentially what it is. But their wording makes it sound like you're buying a full game. (Where in reality you're buying a lot of content for the "free" ps+ game ).

Fair enough, "dangerous prescedents" aside, I agree, by not calling it a DLC its exploiting consumer ignorance. Although, as DLC it is blantatly overpriced, especially considering its worthless without plus.

anti-consumer isn't providing gamers with additional options, it's limiting options, like what xbone was going to do before the public spoke

I was talking about the link you said youd provide to people outside of this thread. I don't see how any future anti-consumer decisions of MS are at all relevant to a Sony exclusive. There use to be a time on these forums that bringing up a different company when the thread is not of a company was banable... And for the most part I agreed with it.
