then wii games is the best then in your definition huh.... and call of duty :)

I will admit that I did love the shit out of the WII because of the extremely fun games and that especially goes with mario kart wii and wii sports. I won't deny the fact that I like call of duty too which is pretty decent.

I'm one of the few people who will not categorize dumb shit like "casual" or "hardcore" but a gamer is a gamer.

Yea the whole arguement is really dumb.  People use hardcore to replace Niche (Pikmin,Dark Souls,Catherine) and call things casual that are really just wide appeal (COD, Mario Kart).   Casual to me is things like Wii Sports,Kinect Sports,Wii Fit, Just Dance...basically just games that non-gamers are willing to pick up and play.   Good Luck finding some non-gamers to play COD with you.

It's thanks to COD that those non-gamers also came to the PS360.

Your underestimating CODs ability to create growth in gaming because COD ACTUALLY SELLS HARDWARE.

No doubt COD sells hardware right now, just look at the PS4/Xbone software sales.  I am just saying that to me casual is something that anyone that is a non-gamer can pick up and play right away.   Wii Sports - swing the controller like a tennis racket, bowl a ball.   Just Dance - Do the moves we tell you to do.  My first COD was the first one on the PC and at the time it was only a small to mid tier title.  MW2 brought in soooooo many people that did not play COD before, and to me thats when it really took off.  Now alot of people are tired of it, but if you only started 2 - 3 years ago, I can see why you are not yet.  Sales are creeping down by about 3 million release since MW3.

I think the next big hit might go to activisions destiny. Bungie is no doubt a talented studio and I'm willing to see what they'll bring up.

I'm not going to try and refute this particular piece of work, as I feel the subject is simply a worthless topic for discussion. Suffice to say, it's pretty bad.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

I think you guys are really overthinking this whole thing, because to me its pretty straight forward. Nintendo launched with NSMBU,ZombiU, and Nintendoland and had the 2nd best launch ever, at the time. What followed was 8 months of zilch, nada,NOTHING to sell the console to anyone that was'nt convinced at launch. Pikmin 3 gave a little boost, W101 did nothing, Wind Waker gave a little boost, and the price drop did very little. The Mario/Luigi Bundles along with SM3DW though have given it a huge boost. They have been top sellers on Gamestop,Target,Amazon, and Best Buy and have brought the sales back to a respectable level. Wii Fit U should draw some casuals. DK has a much bigger base then people give it credit for (1st one sold 6 m.) and then Mario Kart will come out which is Nintendos biggest franchise. This console is not the Gamecube guys, the Gamecube released Smash/Mario/Pikmin/Luigis Mansion/Metroid/Zelda and Starfox in the 1st year and no one cared. Wii U puts out one bundle and one Mario game and it is already selling much better.

Xbone and PS4 are a little harder to analyze because we are in the launch period but heres my best guess. Xbone sales are going to take a huge dive next year. They are already retail on ebay (demand is not that high), zero exclusive games are coming out (Titanfall on 360 is foolish), and $500 is a tough sell. PS4 will have no big exclusives as well (sorry but Infamous 2 was a flop, no one really cares) but overflow demand and a lower price should keep their sales at decent levels. I am a big believer in supply and demand and when the Wii U Mario/Luigi bundles are marked up for more than Xbox Ones, thats a really bad sign for the near future, while PS4 is still really expensive.

As for who is winning this gen.....The bottom line is that someone in the next year is going to drop "the killer app", and when they do, that's the console the masses will flock towards. It could be an open world Zelda, it could be a new Miyamoto IP, it could be Halo 5, it could be some new Naughty Dog game, who knows, but what has been proven over time is that the company with the best games to offer always wins. NES,SNES,PS1,PS2,Wii. All had their X-factors (DVD Player,Motion Controls, etc.) along with great games.

I would count nintendo out because at this point they want to put out more gamecube esque games instead of what the market is asking for.

I would count Pikmin 3, W101, and Wind Waker (obviously) as Gamecube-esque but SM3DW,DKC, and the new Mario Kart look far from it.   Smash Bros sold 7 million on the Gamecube, so thats a franchise that should be gamecube-esque.  "X" too me looks PS2-esque, which is why everyone is dying to play it.  Otherwise we just have to wait and see what Nintendo has in the pipeline.  The PS3 was a massive fail too, until God of War 3, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, and a few others came out.  Its all about the games man, always has, always will.

I'm pretty sure SM3DW falls under gamecube esque because it clearly flopped harder than sunshine. I'm not too sure about DKCTF because will it did really well for the WII and I know that retrostudios is putting some hardwork into it in order to subsitute for an actual 2D mario game unlike NSMBU. I'm pretty sure X isn't going to do great on the charts because their last game didn't fair too well with under 1 million so I would put it under gamecube esque also.

The PS3 was nothing but incompetence on sony's part but thankfully they fixed it.

Lets wait and see on those SM3DW sales. Its gotten off to a slow start for a mario game, but at the rate it is going, it going to cross 1.5 million by years end, which would make it the top selling next-gen game other than COD.   Sunshine only sold 6.3 million over the course of 4 - 5 years, and SM3DW should be in the mid 4 million range by the end of 2014, if not more considering how much its being marketed.  3D World is going to end up with no lower than 8 million lifetime sales and my best guess would put it much closer to 10 million which would put in the Mario Galaxy 2, Mario 64 range.   Xenoblade sold 900,000k in the US but it was only at Gamestop and the resale prices were over $100 for a long time.  If it was released everywhere and did'nt sell out within a month it would have been a 1.7 - 2 million seller, and thats a game that is just a port/translation.  A brand new one could push 3 million, no doubt.

I think Destiny will do really well, but considering that it is releasing on 360 and PS3, its not going to move the kind of hardware that Sony and Microsoft would like.  I really don't get why Destiny and Titanfall are being released on the old consoles.  Imagine of Pikmin 3 and SM3DW were released on the Wii, people would be trashing them for not knowing what they are doing, yet Microsoft is trying to double-dip and get a free pass.

You don't realize the 3D marios have smaller legs, do you ? 5 million lifetime sounds more realistic by the looks of things.

I'm pretty sure that xenoblade is a small title so I don't think it would've reached 1.5 million at best.

I'm sure that destiny will do decently on next gen platforms but I do think that last gen platforms will do slightly better in sales but that should be of no issue because I think this game is supposed to sell 10 million across 4 platforms.

I don't think anyone really cares that titanfall is on last gen platforms even though it will do really well I don't think it's going to be a very large game like destiny so titanfall really isn't worth $500 even if it was exclusive.

Hypocrite much ?! I couldn't care less about anyones opinion and I don't deem anyone's opinion to be worthless. What I do deem worthless is your flawed analysis so far.

funny i feel the same about your analysis.

It sounds like you don't actually want nintendo to succeed.

your analyisis is based off one console that broke all the rules for winning a console gen, it had last generation hardware, no online play and weak third party support, never in any generation has this happened before, you can't  seem to understand that the reason behind wii success was motion controls and wii sports, you also don't anybody trying to replicate it's success on nextgen consoles, not even nintendo, cause they know that market is finished on consoles.

Would you rather a system full of crappy games that sell well to the masses?

Those so called "crappy" games are realized in high quality according to the masses so yes.

Great, you can enjoy Just Dance 4 and Angry Birds Star Wars, I'd rather play decent games regardless of their sales.

Your forgetting games like GTA V and COD there buddy. While you keep playing "quantity" games, I'll be playing "quality" games.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure that's my argument that you suddenly switched to...

Yet GTA V and COD sells alot so what's your point ? I guess you consider them as trash because their "crappy games that sell to the masses".

I never said that. A good game can sell well or sell poorly for many reasons. I'd play it regardless of how it sells. Either way.

I won't avoid a game just because it appeals to the masses, but at the same time I won't buy a game because of it.

If it's sooo good then why does the rest of the market think differently ? To buy a game must mean that it's probably a good game because you don't spend your money on trash games. Therefore it speaks volumes about a games quality by the masses. SALES = QUALITY

Haha, funny how this was the argument us Nintendo fans used 4 years ago.. Looks as if Sony and Nintendo fans have swapped stances on this once again.. how times have changed

Like I said Xenoblade costing as much as it did for a used copy until "magically" gamestop had copies is why I think a brand new release, could no doubt sell atleast 2 million.    We will just have to agree to disagree on SM3DW.   My main reasoning is that SM3DL on 3DS has already broken the "2D Marios sell better" trend, and once the people who have been waiting for Kart and Smash Bros get their consoles, they are going to go back and buy it.

Yep, WiiU takes this by default. It would probably take PS4 and Xbone combined.
