Alright so GPU prices are now at a point where my brain constantly wants to buy one.

But also now the crazy part of my brain is back and tells me to just screw it and go 4k.
The idea here is, I paid for full AM4 on my motherboard and now I am going to use all the AM4 on my motherboard and upgrade my CPU from a 3700X to a 5900X or 5950X
Then the PSU gets upped to around 700W
And then I need a 4K GPU that is not overly expensive. Fuck the 3090.

Is there any up-to-date list out there of GPUs ranked by performance per $ and performance per Watt?
Only found some that were 2 years old.

Atm I am thinking about a 6800XT. Because I don't care about ray tracing. While the game dev in me really likes that we are making progress in that field none of the games I own and plan to own support it. I play old shit and RTS games so StarCraft 2 and AoE4 are currently about 90% of my gaming activity.

You can find a more up to date performance per watt charts by checking the more recent GPU reviews such as with techpowerup:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-3080-noctua-oc/36.html

I do think you may want to wait until July to see if Lovelace is any good. A 4070 may be able to give you the performance of a 3090 while using less power than a 6800XT while giving you all the benefits of going Nvidia. The announcement should also make current GPUs like the 6800XT get discounted assuming the mining trend doesn't come back so waiting might be a good idea.

The 6800XT is a pretty great GPU regardless though so it will last you a long time.

JPR: GPU market is slowing down, shipments decreased by -19% year-to-year

https://videocardz.com/press-release/jpr-gpu-market-is-slowing-down-shipments-decreased-by-19-year-to-year

Nvidia continues to dominate while AMD and Intel fight for scraps. Still surprising how much % Intel has managed to secure with entry level GPUs.

I don't see how Intel managed to get a 5% of the market unless they've almost floored China with them, because I don't remember them being available anywhere else (except Korea in Samsung laptops).

It's quite suspicious.

In any case, scalpers and crypto miners are no longer buying cards (the first ones are having troubles selling the ones they got, which fills me with joy), but that will change when the new Nvidia and AMD cards launch.

That would be an impressive CPU upgrade.

As for where to find those charts, the answer to both is the same: TechPowerUp.

Not only you can find a relative performance chart for each GPU in their database (here's the one for the 6800XT you mentio), but in their reviews they have a Performance per Dollar (here's for the 6800XT, in base of the launch price in 2020), and they also have a performance per Watt, lately renamed to Efficiency (and yes, I'll also link here the one from their 6800XT review).

I hope it helps.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate is free to keep for a limited time
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/warhammer-40000-chaos-gate-is-free-to-keep-for-a-limited-time/
This year's Warhammer Skulls showcase included announcements for several new videogames in Games Workshop's mega-gothic far future Warhammer 40,000 setting: a boomer shooter called Boltgun, a card game called Warpforge, and a cRPG from Pathfinder developers Owlcat called Rogue Trader. We also saw a bit more of the upcoming Space Marine 2. While we wait for all those, here's an older game to tide you over.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate is a squad tactics game published by SSI in 1998, and you can get it for free right now on GOG as part of the Warhammer Skulls 2022 Digital Goodie Pack. The pack includes a concept art book for 2006 strategy game Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, a bundle of wallpapers, including some promo art from last year's under-rated FPS Necromunda: Hired Gun (well, I liked it), and a few discount codes, as well as Chaos Gate.

Developer red-prig has released a new Playstation 4 emulator for the PC, called fpPS4. According to reports, fpPS4 is an open-source PS4 emulator, and currently runs two commercial games. These two games are Sonic Mania and We Are Doomed.
fpPS4 is the fourth Playstation 4 emulator that has appeared online. The other three are Kyty, Spine and GPCS4. All four emulators are in a very early stage, so don’t expect to emulate any of the triple-A PS4 games on your PC anytime soon. Nevertheless, it’s cool witnessing more emulators popping out.

New Fallout New Vegas Mods overhaul NPCs and all quarry areas
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/new-fallout-new-vegas-mods-overhaul-npcs-and-all-quarry-areas/
Fallout New Vegas fans, here are two mods/texture packs for you today. The first Texture Pack will overhaul a lot of the game’s NPCs, whereas the second one will improve all of the game’s quarry areas.
Going into more details, Vegas NPC Overhaul is an overhaul for 67 NPCs in base New Vegas and a few from Dead Money and Honest Hearts. Modders Balebandr0 and Enjoyer have made major changes to the detail and poly count of the NPCs. Many characters have been completely remade with new outfits, hairstyles, and facial hair to fit their personalities better than the vanilla game.
On the other hand, Redesigned Quarries gives all quarries in New Vegas a complete and total facelift with working LODs, new meshes, and landscape repaints. Therefore, limestone quarries will no longer look flat and unappealing; they now feel more world accurate, and much more unique.

The next 40K videogame is a free-to-play card game
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/the-next-40k-videogame-is-a-free-to-play-card-game/
Not content with the Warhammer x Magic: The Gathering crossover due in August, the grim far future setting of Warhammer 40,000 is coming to a new collectible card game of its own called Warpforge. Just announced as part of the annual Warhammer event Skulls for the Skull Throne, Warpforge will be a free-to-play card game based on "brutal and fast-paced skirmishes."

This free horror game is about the sheer terror of turning off the lights before bed
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/this-free-horror-game-is-about-the-sheer-terror-of-turning-off-the-lights-before-bed/
(...)
Lights Off! is a free first-person horror game that's been on Itch.io for a while but recently popped up on Steam. It simulates that fear of turning off the lights and climbing the stairs to go to bed in the dark, and despite the low-fi graphics it's immediately and immensely effective. You begin on the ground floor of a brightly lit house at midnight and you have to walk through the rooms and click off each light one by one. In the near silence (except a faint and ominous hum) your footsteps are a little too loud and the sharp click of each lightswitch, along with the encroaching darkness, make the tension quickly grow from slightly uncomfortable to "Oh God something is gonna get me." If ever I wish a game had a sprint button, this is the one.

Dontnod spellchecks itself, is now called Don't Nod

Diablo Immortal isn't quite pay-to-win, but it's close
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/diablo-immortal-isnt-quite-pay-to-win-but-its-close/
If you're looking to pop demons and pick up some loot in Diablo Immortal for more than a few hours, you'll probably have to pay. NetEase and Blizzard's mobile-first and now PC-ported Diablo game is built to obfuscate how real money transactions can influence your character's strength, but the most dedicated players are probably going come to their conclusions soon, and it doesn't seem like they'll be positive.

Battle with Be’lakor in a major update to Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s Chaos Wastes expansion.
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/battle-with-belakor-in-a-major-update-to-warhammer-vermintide-2s-chaos-wastes-expansion/
Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s Chaos Wastes expansion is getting a major update, themed around Warhammer’s first demon prince, the treacherous Be’lakor.
Chaos Wastes is a free expansion for Vermintide 2 that launched in April last year. It’s a side-adventure that takes the game’s cooperative rat-bashing and turns it into a roguelike affair, with randomly generated levels, multiple ways to progress, and its own upgrade system based around purchasing abilities and equipment with coins dropped by enemies.

Alleged GeForce RTX 4090 series PCB leak shows NVLink and 16-pin power connectors but no USB Type-C display output

Personally I do think Kopite's leak that it will be announced in July is a bit optimistic where as Igor's leak sounds more reasonable.

Do We Actually Need PS5 Pro/ 'Xbox Series Next' Enhanced Consoles This Generation?

Richard does bring up a lot of good points that affects both future PC hardware and console development. In the past, not only did we have massive node shrink but cost per transistor prices were also falling. These days, not only do we not have such dramatic node shrinks anymore but companies no longer get the discounts per transistor like they used to. So it will be much harder to get the leaps while keeping a similar price point.

If Nvidia starts mass producing Ada in August, there's no ay we'll see cards with them in the same month. September at the earliest.

And yeah, Richard makes a good point about why it's way to soon for mid-gen refreshes, which may not even happen.
