Looks like Intel's ARC GPUs are more powerful than the first tests have let on.

https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-arc-a350m-gets-significant-performance-boost-in-games-with-dynamic-tuning-technology-disabled

The culprit is Intel's DTT technology, which is meant to save battery life. However, it basically underclocks the GPU and CPU to achieve this, as well as lowering GPU usage, resulting in much lost performance. In a test with and without DTT, the result was about twice as much performance without DTT; while originally the 350M had only about 30% more performance than the MX 450, but with DTT disabled it handily beat the 1650.

The stuttering is still there, but this should be fixed with driver updates. Now Intel has to finetune DTT to turn off by itself in games and some applications and they could have a great mobile GPU at their hands after they fixed the other driver-related problems.

It's hard to understand how Intel made this oversight. I mean, I could get it if it were 10%, but 50%? How could they miss it?

This also tells us that Zen4 will be a fair bit faster than the 5800X3D, otherwise AMD wouldn't have launched it.

I hope Intel brings some IPC gains with its 13th gen besides the rumored higher clocks (up to 5.8GHz), because if they don't...

Please excuse my bad English.

Gonna need a nuclear reactor to power a 4090 with 13th gen at 5.8ghz.

Its actually nice to see consumers have not stand up to this crap anymore and leaving them dry. They've been screwing us over over the last two years and taken advantage of the situation and going for short term gain. PC gamers have accepted that GPU prices are overpriced as the market has been totally screwed by mining. And they kinda bought it upon themselves.

That and restrictions have largely levied for several countries so people are spending less time and money on electronics and PC stuff and more on other things - particularly people who bought stuff on fomo during the peak of the pandemic. Whats left are the people who have been waiting for GPU prices to come back to normality which hasn't happened yet and like you said next gen is coming real soon.

And yeah that's what they get for going for short term gain from a volatile business's. Its also a good sign because Nvidia and AMD won't dare rise prices (for RTX/RX cards) that high because the demand just isn't there for GPU's at current price points.

It makes sense for us to do it at this time, we got screwed by scalpers, Nvidia didn't give a care that we were high and dry, then the shortage happened, they again didn't care, and now this happens and they expect us to pick up the slack for previous gen cards, lolno, ain't no one got time for that.

Maybe next time they'll actually try selling to us instead of miners/scalpers and actually join the effort properly of crippling mining that bit more, instead of dolling out the code to bypass mining rates (seriously the biggest fuckup they did was handing out that update).

I do find it funny how they try to blame a bit of it on Russia though, since the rest of the world also happens to buy their GPU's, so it comes off as a cheapass scapegoat excuse.

This is the first time I've actually had to skip a whole two gens worth of GPU's, and I don't wanna skip the 4000 series, but if they don't sort out them prices for them when they land, I'm gonna have to look elsewhere.

You'd hope they won't raise them again, but we know they still have that larger marketshare, and they'll probably make more Ti variants that we don't ever need (because for some reason they can't seem to accept that no one wants Titan cards these days).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

I would love to see some comparison of the battery life with and without DTT. Maybe deactivating DTT will tank the battery life?

The much enhanced cache should do the trick for Intel in a similar way as it enhances the performance of the 5800X3D. Even if there are no other changes (apart from the number of e-cores), that would already be a nice uptick. I just wonder if Raptor Lake will consume more or less power than a Threadripper...

Given how it goes from using around 35W to almost 55W, I'd say that yes, battery life will drop like a rock.

I didn't know Intel was also taking pages from AMD's strategy to add more cache to its chips, both CPUs and GPUs.

As for the power consumption... well, the 12900KS gets close to the the highest Threadripper 3000 series so, with even more E-cores, higher frequencies and bigger caches, it's not out of the equation, even on a smaller node.
