The more notable games I've played this year, I've played on Steam -

Resident Evil Village - Not got around to finishing yet but a great action game.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition - Not exactly new title but I'll just add it in. A classic, made better.
New World - Solid outing from Amazon's first MMO. Fun game, though sadly lacks content and endgame

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Also, Rhonin, congratulations on your purchases. I hope you've left something for the Winter Sale!

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Resident Evil 4 HD Project will release on February 2nd 2022
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/resident-evil-4-hd-project-will-release-on-february-2nd-2022/
Modders Albert and Cris have announced that their highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 HD Project will release on February 2nd, 2022. Resident Evil 4 HD Project is a must-have mod for Resident Evil 4, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
What’s also cool here is that with the combined efforts of the community, the modders have been able to raise this project to another level by fixing some infamous issues of this and previous HD ports. For instance, they have added full HD videos. The final version will also have the original DoF blurring effect from the GC/Wii versions. Not only that, but it will have a FOV for PC gamers to adjust.

Ubisoft won’t fix Splinter Cell Blacklist’s online issues & will ban you if you submit a support ticket [UPDATE]
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/ubisoft-wont-fix-splinter-cell-blacklists-online-issues-will-ban-you-if-you-submit-a-support-ticket/
Ubisoft keeps on digging. The company’s Head of Customer Relationship Center, Tara Johnson Reichley, has just announced that they will be banning people for simply submitting a support ticket. Yeap, you read that right. The company will ban you, and therefore prevent you from playing the games you’ve already purchased, if you simply submit a ticket for a specific title.
UPDATE:
Ubisoft has deleted this thread, claiming that the post had been written by a user impersonating a Ubisoft employee, and not a member of the support staff. However, this sounds too convenient after the initial backlash. The reason I’m saying this is because this topic was stickied at the top. Not only that, but the reply function was also disabled. The only ones that can do these things are admins and moderators (or users that have these privileges). You cannot simply create a new account and sticky a topic. Since Ubisoft has failed to explain these things, we are a bit cautious about this whole PR mess.

The news 2:

Dark Souls named 'Ultimate Game of All Time'
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/dark-souls-named-ultimate-game-of-all-time/
The PC was declared the Ultimate Hardware of All Time at the Golden Joystick Awards yesterday, (...)
But if PC is the ultimate gaming hardware, then what, you might reasonably ask, is the ultimate game? That, according to the Golden Joysticks, is FromSoftware's 2011 ARPG Dark Souls, which beat out other contenders in the fan-voted category including Doom, Half-Life 2, Minecraft, Halo: Combat Evolved, Grand Theft Auto 5, Portal, and Space Invaders.

Party Hats are 'pivotal' to the RuneScape economy, and new hats are being given out for the first time in 20 years
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/runescape-golden-party-hat-hunt/
RuneScape player 120King says they started cooking sailfish at 6:40 am on Monday. Four hours and "roughly" 4,000 cooked sailfish later, they acquired one of eight shards needed to earn a Golden Party Hat, a piece of gear which grants its wearer zero stat benefits. They have until January 3 to acquire the other seven shards they need to get a hat that does nothing, but may someday make them RuneScape rich.
The last time Party Hats were up for grabs was 20 years ago. Those originals, which also grant wearers absolutely nothing, are now worth over 2.1 billion gold, making them RuneScape's most valuable items.

I forgot to mention in the news that Nvidia has issued a Hotfix update for its latest driver. I've only fouind it at Guru3D:

GeForce 496.89 Hotfix driver download
https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/geforce-496-89-hotfix-driver-download.html

The hotfix addresses the following issues:

  • [Notebook]: Black screen may be observed on some Optimus notebooks with 1440p/165hz panels when in discrete GPU mode [3426730]
  • Games do not launch correctly on GeForce GTX 750 Ti when NVIDIA Image Scaling is enabled
  • [3442778]Using Adaptive Vertical Sync while G-SYNC is enabled may result in random black screen [3437003]
  • [Red Dead Redemption 2/Doom Eternal]: The game crashes with TDR or the system crashes while running the game. [200766423]
