They did but sales were limited due to being VR only.

Yeah, I dont see a new one coming anytime soon.

I wonder if they'll port L4D2 into the new source engine.

I mean, that's why it was VR based, they wanted to try something different (I don't blame them for trying something that wasn't yet another card game based on a Moba).

They really should try porting at least L4D or L4D 2 over to show what it's capable of (We've even seen short snippets of it before, so it is possible).

Going by that Crow video, most of the team that worked on L4D 1/2 were at Valve and not Turtle Rock, so I'd say their next L4D would be in better hands than what TR came up with in B4B.

The one issue people have with Valve in terms of game releases, is they work on what they want to work on, rather than what everyone else wants (but after seeing how WoW classic and BC classic turned out, not everyone really knows what they truly want these days, and I say that after originally being hyped for WoW classic, then playing it for a year and deciding I wasn't really all that hyped for it coming back).

It goes to show how much polish and care Valve going into for their games, and I'm going to guess its part of a reason why we haven't seen much content from them in the past decade. Iirc they cancelled so many HL titles after HL2 Ep 2 due to unhappy results - https://www.ign.com/articles/valve-explains-why-half-life-2-episode-3-was-never-made.

Imo they are like the Nintendo of the PC space where each release you know you get a product made with care, and has high level of quality assurance.

If Valve decides to make another L4D that would be pretty cool. I'd lose my shit if they made a mainline non VR Half Life game.

Yeah, already knew Back 4 Blood wont be the same quality considering that Turtle Rock messed up Evolve few years ago. Playing the BETA or was it alpha for testing, drove me away from them lol.

As long as its not a card game or MOBA from Valve - I'll be interested in it. (I'm still burnt out from DOTA2...I clocked 150 hours on it).

Maybe in a few years I'll get into VR. Doesnt seem substantial enough for me to get it right now.

They could have, but seeing B4B just means they haven't really learned their lesson since Evolve, and they had years worth of mistakes and fan feedback that could have made this game better.

I saw ACG play the Beta and he didn't seem all that impressed, which was enough for me to know it wasn't going to be stellar on release, then some friends on discord pointed out the lack of proper offline Sp campaign and progression, and then I just decided "yeah, not touching that with a ten ft pole".

Valve needs to understand that LoL is *The* moba these days. Heroes Tried and failed (now it's on it's last legs, and I know, because I play it daily and I'm running into the same ppl nearly every match, which is dire to see), and Dota 2 just doesn't capture that same magic as the first Dota.

The only reason why I haven't touched VR yet, is because the headsets are either too expensive for me, or exclusivity crap comes into play, meaning I cannot pick a headset and play all the VR games I want in one place, that doesn't require another account (FB or non Steam based).

Honestly, that Dota card game feels like Nintendo when they made that Pokemon Sword/Shield, and we saw how little care was put into that game, both graphically and mechanically.

Valve can put care into it's games, but not every game is always met with the same level of care (like Tf2 now being largely left to the wayside, even with the bot crisis, and still no word on TF1 being brought back).

I didnt really get into Half-Life , probably cause I played the non-Source engine version of the first game lol.

I'll play the Source engine one and HL2 in the future.

But I really love Left 4 Dead and Portal - played both first and second games for both.

I'll take a new Portal or a new Left 4 Dead!

Fair enough heh. Would highly recommend Black Mesa, if you're curious enough to try the HL games. Its a fan made mod and remaster of the first game (in Source) approved by Valve and is done really well. One of the best FPS games ever imo.

Also would love either games and maybe a new Team Fortress. Actually I'll take anything Valve releases, since most of their games are pretty much gold lol. That reminds me still have to play HL Alyx.

Woah! Two posts of news!

Crash on, survive, and terraform an alien world in The Planet Crafter's free demo
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/crash-on-survive-and-terraform-an-alien-world-in-the-planet-crafters-free-demo/
Indie survival game The Planet Crafter looks like a new fix for those who love Subnautica and the like, asking you to survive, explore, build a base on, and eventually terraform an alien world. As you do that, you explore the ruins of prior colonization attempts on this planet to find vital resources and figure out what's gone wrong before you got there.
>> The demo is available on Steam.

Kill bizarre demons and use their blood as paint in mad roguelike Brutal Orchestra

Okay here's the setup for Brutal Orchestra: You're dead, someone killed you, and you can't do anything about escaping purgatory but you can definitely set yourself up for revenge when they arrive here too.
>> You'll find it on Steam or itch.io (links in the article).

Here's an atmospheric look at gameplay in first-person horror shooter ILL
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/heres-an-atmospheric-look-at-gameplay-in-first-person-horror-shooter-ill/
With a vibe straight out of a horror detective movie, the first gameplay trailer for in-development horror shooter Ill, stylized as ILL, shows off a cluttered, detailed environment and heavy, very physical movement. The heavily ambient background and compositing, by electronic artist Lorn, is frankly flawless, short as it may be.

Surreal visual novel 'milk inside a bag of milk' has a sequel now: 'milk outside a bag of milk'
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/surreal-visual-novel-milk-inside-a-bag-of-milk-has-a-sequel-now-milk-outside-a-bag-of-milk/
One of the stranger visual novels I've ever enjoyed, Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk released on Steam in August of 2020 and gave an affecting and melancholy look inside a person's head. It's a weird and somewhat upsetting game that switches back and forth between playing with clever words and delivering insights into moments of acute psychological trauma.
Milk inside is very short and has historically sold for about a dollar. It's one of the few games I'd call somewhat literary, in that it's the product of a single person, writer-designer-programmer Nikita Kryukov. Well, now Kryukov has made a sequel—one that's much longer and sells for nine dollars rather than one.

George R.R. Martin thinks Elden Ring 'looks incredible'
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/george-rr-martin-thinks-elden-ring-looks-incredible/
It has been almost three years since author George R.R. Martin casually teased that he worked on a video game "out of Japan," but here we are just a few months away from an Elden Ring release.
In a blog post, Martin acknowledged that it has been a bit since he wrote the mythos and backstory for Elden Ring, and the man admits he loves worldbuilding. Having now seen the fruits of what the collaboration made, Martin seems quite pleased. "What they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create. And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history," he wrote.

Rogue Fable is a traditional roguelike you might ever actually finish
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/rogue-fable-is-a-traditional-roguelike-you-might-ever-actually-finish/
Hello! Do you love the idea of traditional roguelikes such as Nethack, ADOM, Caves of Qud, or Cogmind?
Well, how about Rogue Fable 3, a traditional roguelike that's designed more for a tight, cohesive, and replayable experience rather than a sprawling ultra-complex text sprawl that makes your brain go all soupy?
