@That tablet shipment chart:

Were any Windows tablets even available in Q3 2012?! :o

* Microsoft captured a niche 2 percent global tablet share in Q3 2012. The imminent release of the new Windows 8 operating system will likely drive Microsoft tablet volumes higher during the Q4 2012 holiday season.

No, and if they sold 1 million surface tablets in Q4 that's about 4% of the tablet market for Q4 (assuming Q4 shipments = Q3 shipments). Take from that what you will.

Okay, interesting.

So lets assume that 1.5m non-Surface windows tablets were sold this quarter (complete guess)...and 30m tablets were shipped this quarter... That means 2.5m out of 30m tablets sold this quarter were Windows tablets...which means M$ will have 8%+ of the tablet market this quarter. That's impressive!

1 Million is 1:20 against Apple which they said to be their direct competition. High price market will be Apple's and low price tablets go to Acer, Asus, Google, Amazon and Chinese companies. Don't know if Microsoft can fight in the upper league.

lol, non-surface MS tablets sold 0.4M in Q3 and you want to assume they sell 1.5m in Q4? Not happening. Let's just stick with the 1.8% market share from Q3 for non-surface tablets and add the 4% from 1 million sold / 25M (Q3 Market total) and we can guess it has about 5.8% market share, which is a huge improvement from 1.8%, but I think they expected better.

More than likely the market increased in Q4 so I would guess 5% at the top end for MS share.

"According to sources at parts manufacturers, sales figures for the Nexus 7 have officially shockedGoogle. Originally, El Goog thought 2.5 million units would be sufficient to get them through 2012, but to meet demand for the popular 7″ tablet, Google has placed an additional order of 2.5 million to keep the masses happy. Just weeks ago, we still didn’t have any word that the Nexus 7 was even selling well at all, but ASUS put our minds at ease when they slipped and said they are shipping nearly 1 million a month."

"Google has reportedly increased its cumulative shipment volume in 2012 to more than 5 million units."

So 5 million for 6 months including holiday season at a low price.

Yep, that's small picture though.

Wow!  MSFT tablets are doing pretty badly.  Apple isn't doing that well either, although they sold more bc the pie is just getting bigger.

you are hilariously uninformed.

Market share is all that I care about, because profitability slowly follows that.

People are more excited for Surface Pro, so it should be getting better. And isn't surface only sold in MS stores?

Either way, a great first step.

Edit: Your usually anti MS.....yet refuse to comment on Sonys tablet situation :P. Veiled sarcasm I see.

I've seen Surface in Staples and BestBuy.

OT: I knew the Surface Tablet would be a good seller. Their Marketing campaign is great and very easy to remember. (There is a lot of clicking in it...)

No it doesn't. Google has 60% of the smartphone market and they've made fuck all profit

Yeah, but apple is losing marketshare and should lose some revenue as well.  They've already lost a large amount of stock price, so if you think that revenue will be busting to astronomical highs then you're fooling yourself.

Google tablets on the other hand, push users into google search, its main cash cow.  all they have to do is click on Chrome, and for most users they have google.com as their default page..... and bam! they get going.  This isn't even charging google in the least so in terms of profits they should be a net positive, even though the results improved are technically in other parts of google

But there weren't any Windows 8/RT tablets even available in Q3 2012...Samsung, etc. released Windows 8/RT tablets in Q4 2012, so sales will definately increase

Apple may be losing marketshare, but it's revenue is rapidly increasing. The number of units sold is what matters for apple, and that's continually increasing...and therefore so is revenue
