Everyone is expecting Microsoft to go beast in terms of power, but I'm not so sure, not if Kinect 2.0 is integrated or offered in bundles at launch. That would make the 720 really expensive, and as Xbox is the weakest brand of the three, I think it's important for Microsoft to have a really solid launch year.

In Japan yes, but not in North America. Microsoft has made a really good job in their home market and their brand is now very well known. And in Europe the things are a lot better than last gen, specially in the UK.

When I say it without modifiers, I mean globally.  No real reason to break it up.  The 360 launched first yet has the lowest installed base and the lowest sales rate, which tells me it was the weaker brand this generation.  It will probably lose market share in 2012 to Sony, even with the release of Halo 4 and a new CoD game.  That's why I think Microsoft needs a great launch if they want to increase market share next gen.  If they falter out the gates it could hurt them quite a bit outside the US and perhaps even in NA somewhat, especially given that they won't be the first next gen console this time around.

Also, its the end of console life, everyone is selling slow, even PS3.

And by the way a system with similar WiiU specs would be a PS3 so according to the article Sony should just put some ram and change the case and call it the PS4.

Dear god, don't even say things like that. The last thing we need is a bunch of fanboys blaming Nintendo for the PS4 being "underpowered."

1. The rumored PS4 specs are actually much more powerful than the Wii U. We don't know specifics but I'd say at best 3x the power.
2. If Sony really plans to have the PS4 run games at 1080p, 60FPS in 3D, then something is missing from these rumors. The APU alone won't achieve that. It needs a dedicated graphics card as well.
3. Rumors mention a "very affordable console" that "isn't a slouch". I think this person is paying a little too much attention to the "affordable" part. By affordable I doubt they mean $300. They just mean "no more $599".

The Ram for gaming is at least 7/11x the wii U based on these specs.

What if the Wii U doesn't sell well and Sony releases a more powerful console for $300/$350 and Nintendo slashes the price by $70. I say Sony is DOOOOMMED. Nintendo Flawless Victory!

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

what a useless article 0_o..even has comments taken from 'n4g'? New low surely

and the information means nothing without more details. I'm no tech guy but without knowing the nature of the processor (it will be custom made to meet sony requrements) and also without the knowledge of any additional processors or gpu it really is a waste of time

to be honest this is more wishful thinking than anything. I sure hope sony sticks to their words and have an actual noticeable leap...that's what I want from a next gen console

I'd be happy with that. Sure the playstation would probably sell only 3 million in its first eight months but it would be a powerhouse.

Seriously I thought this sight was mostly Sony fans and yet only like three of us want a beast. I've predicted for years that it will be $450 and by using a Vita approach with off the shelf parts that could mean upwards of ten times what the PS3 can do. Please Sony, make my eyes bleed!

They'd be stupid if they went all out again (in terms of power).

They didn't exactly go all out in power this gen, the PS3's main cost factor was it's blu ray drive which at the time was extremely costly.

The Cell was still a costly investment in power that didn't pay off for Sony like they'd hoped.

As far as blu-ray, it's still clearly an example of them going all out for the time.  While I'm sure that the PS3's blu-ray capabilities helped its sales, it would have helped them far more to go with DVD and launch much cheaper, as the vast majority of games this gen did just fine on DVD and the few that required it could have easily just released on two or three discs.

Those specs seem pretty spot on to me too. Anyone who was expecting the PS4 to rival today's high-end gaming PCs in terms of power really need to get their head examined. If you want a power PC, then buy a power PC.

Precisely.  That's exactly what I will be doing to go along with my WiiU.
