Halo 3: ODST 2009 6.07
Halo Wars 2009 2.17
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary 2011 1.94
   TOTAL VGC Sold   45.85
   Microsoft Shipped   ~43.00

Even without Digital sales, we still have Halo at 45.85m. So the series is definitely overtracked. Sales total should be in the 42m range somewhere. And that's a best-case scenario, assuming they haven't counted digital sales.

What installment do you guys think is overtracked?

Maybe it's just me but I'm not understanding the argument here.  Regardless of what anybody says on this site Halo has sold 43 million at least wether thats just retail or digital we know for a fact it's sold 43 million which is BIG numbers.  No argument needed.  Let's count all the other franchises that's sold this much in the last decade

You shouldnt have said that......now were gonna get the flood of Nintendo franchises that did that.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I think they didnt include Halo CEA. Would put it in line with 43. The PR guy maybe didnt have up to date information. We can speculate forever on this.

Speculation is the heart and soul of this site.

How can we say it's overtracked? We don't know which games are included. Microsoft can easily put aside wars or odst because they aren't "main installments". So without those 2 numbers would be 38.5. Add the digital sales and copies in store and that would give around 43. Microsoft has always made a difference between the spin-offs and the main games.

Then I stand by my Halo CEA theory. Its the most recent entry and the MS rep probably didnt have up to date info. Gaming reps have said a lot worse lol

But we have it at 45 million.

Does it matter?  They could be  talking about Bunigie's Halo and excluding Halo Wars and Halo Combat Evolved.  They could be disregading some of the Halo 2 add ons, we really dont know and it doesnt really matter.  This site is not perfectly accurate and I guarantee that tons of games are overtracked on this site but we arent talking about all of those games because no one will ever know exactly what each game has sold.  You can speculate but no matter what 43 million soon to be 50 million is an accomplishment so congrats to Microsoft and Halo.  End of story

lol which are all franchises that are juggernauts.  Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon etc are all big names and there is no need to argue with that.  Halo and masterchief deserves to be on that list.

What exactly is your point?

Yes, they could be excluding Halo Wars and Halo Combat Evolved. But we don't know if they did. We don't know much. That's why it's called speculation.

Yes, other games have been overtracked before, hence why whenever we got information which may contradict VGChartz information, we have always discussed to what magnitude they were overtracked in the past...PLENTY OF TIMES. That's what we always do. And typically, the bigger the game, the more interesting the discussion. So it's no surprise why people are discussing this. I'm not sure why you are so against something that's been the core of VGChartz for years now.

Yes, it's a great accomplishment for Microsoft and Halo. What is your point? Point to me where I have said anything remotely close to downplaying the success of the IP. Go ahead, find it. This was completely irrelevant.

You need to check your paranoia and recognize that this discussion is appropriate.

@jaywood2010

Excellent post and I totally agree. The problem though is that for some people they feel a personal investment in the numbers. Why I dont really know but they do. So for certain Sony fans this is a prime time to attack and fir MS fans its time to get on the defensive.

Either way the arguments dumb. I mean who really cares if its 43 or 45 million. Either way its a hugely successful franchise and is making hundreds of millions of dollars. Its a success any way you slice it

no one is saying halo sales are bad or anything and we don't talk about other numbers because most games don't get a pr guy saying something like that or are not big enough to get people talking about those games. but i remember the discussion about the god of war franchise not long ago.

we would get the same discussions about a gran turismo, uncharted, fable or metroid or let's say about the console sales in france yesterday. that's what vgchartz is about, it's about sales numbers.

and we will probably never know which numers they were talking about haha

Gran Turismo included... over 50 million in the last decade.
