Yohan Blake is the only man who stands a chance at beating Usain Bolt in the Olympics, but he won't come close to Bolts record of 9.58 seconds.

I can't wait for the Olympics. Won't be able to watch very many events but I'll watch what I can (especially the opening ceremony). Is this going to be the official Olympics thread Conegamer?

Yes. And I'm gonna resdesign the OP tomorrow with all of the events for that day. Today the only one is Archery, which I believe is the only event NOT to be televised...

Hyped up for basketball and women's soccer. Team USA on Bball is cool to watch, but Brazil v USA on soccer(my call on the final match) is going to be epic

For the next 2 weeks, you call it football, because that's what it's called in the olympics. Deal with it

Anyway, here are the results:

GBR 1-1 SEN

URU 2-1 UAE

JAP 1-0 SPA

HON 2-2 MOR (That leaves Spain last in the group! :O )

MEX 0-0 KOR

GAB 1-1 SWI

BRA 3-2 EGY

BEL 1-0 NZL

That's all the results from yesterday. As I mentioned, nothing today of note (bar Archery qualifications which don't count), and of course the opening ceremony.

i like the drum noise on the replay its like a video game or something,

regarding womens football,i think the pitch needs to be smaller really but then people go PC crazy,

edit, they can't watch the BBc abroad because we pay for it through a forced licence i think,i bet holland/parts of france/ireland can pick it up though probably not sure

The issue with making the pitch smaller is that people would just go crazy and call it sexist. Crazy I know, but true...

I find it strange how there's already events been before the opening ceremony do they always do this

Big Olympics news from today:

-A mass bell ringing was held at 8:12 BST to celebrate the opening of the games. All across England, bells of all shapes and sizes were rung for 3 minutes, as a music project by a former Turner Prize winning artist:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19001529

-The Olympic torch may be on its last day (and is currently sailing down the Thames on a beautiful royal boat), but who will light the cauldron?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19000238

-Bolt admits in an interview with the BBC that whilst not 100% fit, he is 95% fit and is hoping to defend his Olympic golds from Beijing. He also concedes that the past few months have been very hard for him, what with injury and 'lackluster form':

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18999825

-The Egyptian Olympic team have been given fake Nike gear, as the zipping contained the Addidas logo. A large mistake, or a simple branding mix-up?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-18995905

-Although Cycling is on everyone's minds after Bradley Wiggins' historic Tour De France win, it's even more important for Chen Guanming, who has cycled from Beijing to London...by Rickshaw. He's travelled over 60,000km through 16 countries, floods, warzones, and temperatures from 35 to -20...take that Wiggins!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-18980693

-And finally, Mitt Romney may have to watch his back after saying London wasn't ready to host the games. Well, Boris Johnson isn't one to take criticism lying down, and has taken a stab of his own at the presidential candidate (who later apologised, as if he meant it!)

I think so, but really, it's only Football. It wouldn't fit in 2 weeks; so it needs the extra games to cram it in...

yes i know but i've watched a fair bit of womens football and apart from the usa,its like watching schoolkids playing a mans game,no harm in the facts

i would carry on about kits and why i watch alot of womens sport but i don't want to get itno a sexist argument witht he PC brigade telling me women don't use their sex appeal to get what they want

@yum,yes well some of the sports have alot of games/qulay to get through which they couldn't fit in if they waited

No, I agree with you. Infact, that discussion was in this very thread! Women's football is still a fledgling game (and even the US didn't look that sharp on Wednesday...), the arguments from feminists would go along the lines of saying' Women are weaker!' and 'Women deserve the same as men!' etc., despite the fact that pretty much every other sport they do less, and that's OK...but that's another argument again.

And Women don't use sex appeal to attract viewers? How many people do you think watch Beach Volleyball for the sport?

(I'm not one of those people, it bores me, but I know plenty of people who watch Beach Volleyball for 'something else'...)
