Forums - PC Discussion - DICE: death of PC claim is ‘bullshit’

DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson has said any claims that the PC market is in decline or dead are “bullshit.”

The developer’s newly announced Battlefield 3 is native to the PC. “I felt that we had, maybe, set PC aside a bit too much. I’ve said this publicly before, we were very unhappy that we were not able to get a PC version out of Battlefield: Bad Company. It was down to sheer manpower, or lack thereof. We felt that we couldn’t just bring out the Frostbite engine, and bring the game to consoles, and get the PC version out. We just failed there,” said Troedsson to Shacknews.

“It’s something that we regret but it was a pure fact that we were faced upon.

“We fixed that with Bad Company 2. Now it’s Battlefield 3 and we thought, ‘Now it’s time to give some extra love to the PC community.’ But also, we strongly believe in PC gaming. Two years ago, maybe one year ago, people talked about ‘the decline of PC gaming.’ Or ‘the death of PC gaming.’ These kind of words were thrown around and, honestly, that’s bullshit.

“PC gamers are probably the most hardcore players we have out there. Sure, online gameplay has been on the rise on the Xbox 360 and PS3. There are a lot of hardcore online players there too. But on PC? That’s our core audience.”

Battlefield 3 is due out later this year on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation

It increased in 2010 due to the new WoW expansion and Starcraft II.It's easy to increase YoY when you have a weak year, and thats why revenue will be down a lot in 2011.

Neither of those games were on Steam, which has been recording phenomenal growth.

Considering Activision's financials saying they made 1,555 million from PC in 2010 (http://investor.activision.com/secfiling.cfm?filingID=1047469-11-1413) I don't think those two games alone account for the 19% increase to $16.2 billion in revenue, as that is an increase of almost 2.5 billion $. and 2009 was up 3% YoY and 2008 was up 18% YoY...

I can't believe some people still believe this. Have you missed EVERYTHING showing that PC gaming, not only increasing, but also increasing faster than consoles. If anything, PC Gaming may now be bigger than console gaming in terms of revenue, which never happened before.

Some people just seem to bury their head in the sand when it comes to anything positive being reported about the PC market. If it's not boxed retail 'AAA' then seemingly it doesn't count, for some reason.

Just don't bother. He thinks better graphics automatically = better game. And yet clearly, he's not a PC gamer.

OT: I wonder what the PC benefits of Battlefield 3 will be?

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Well for one it is going to be 64 players.

Here's hoping BF3 does very well to show Crytek what happens when you don't turn the PC version into a subpar console port.
