Forums - Sales Discussion - First day sales Japan 12/3 (NSMBWii, PSP2 and Gundam vs Gundam Next)

Seems 3-4 million is the upper limit of what a Wii game can sell in Japan.

It's pretty much the upper limit on any game on any platform in Japan. Very few have sold more than 4 million and most of them were Nintendo games.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

damn wat the hell happen to all those 800k- 1mil 1st week estimates for nsmb?

i used ioi's and some others peoples estimates to predict around 900k 1st week in PL hope i dont loose any vgc$

i know thers still 2 more days of data till the week ends but 1mill is looking unlikely now to me

                                                                      Play Me

^ it should get over 800K

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Wow, Gundam vs. Gundam and PSP2 completely shattered Famitsu's expectations.

The Sengoku Musou 3 figures are pretty interesting when held up against other platform debuts for the series...

Title (platform) 1st week (ltd)
Gundam Musou (PS3) 171,032 (312,674)
Shin Sangoku Musou (PSP) 56,425 (286,187)
Shin Sangoku Musou DS: Fighters Battle (NDS) ??? (21,389)
Shin Sangoku Musou 4 Special (360) 5,747 (10,957)

... 80k 1st day likely means 120-130k 1st week and ~250k lifetime. Which would perfectly uphold the 50% series decline from PS2 (SM1 ~1m, SM2 ~500k, SM3 250k). Seems like they're hitting the same problem as MHG/3 too from Sinobi's report (bundles undershipped/sell out, standalone overshipped/languish on shelves). Hopefully Tales of Graces and Winning Eleven Playmaker have more lopsided bundle shipments...

Bundling has been a major issue, i hope that this is changed though. However you can only have a limited amount of bundles especially when the game is 3rd party.

Yes, I'm talking about Japan only. NSMB Wii selling 3 million would prove my point though. It's not about it flopping or selling badly, but let's not compare the DS and Wii when talking about Japan.

Also, it isn't the first 2D mario in 15 years. It's only been 4 since NSMB DS.

Lastly, legs aren't about a platform, but the type of game and appeal it has. RPGs, regardless of system or console, will be frontloaded. Pokemon would still sell gazillions on PSP, etc.

Indeed, legs are all about genre and appeal. So lets take the game that has the most  similar style, appeal, and gameplay. Hum, what could be like New Super Mario Bros Wii? I know! New Super Mario Bros!

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

Funny enough, Pokemon actually sort of shatters the idea that RPGs will always be frontloaded. The most successful RPGs actually seem to NOT be as frontloaded (Pokemon, Monster Hunter and now even Dragon Quest).

Actually, Dragon Quest is generally frontloaded. Sure, it has some legs right now, but they aren't very noteworthy. Same for Monster Hunter. The legs are there, but they aren't strong enough to say the games aren't frontloaded ... Atleast I don't think so.

Pokémon is another story, though.
