Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto on lack of online support in New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I agree. When you can see the other person, you can yell at them for team killing you. If they had online multiplayer in NSMBWii, everyone would be pissed at the game for letting you teamkill.

Please talk for yourself.

I know my best friends already since I was 4. And what would be the problem if I had kids? I'd just play with Mario with them :)

what if your best friend lives in another city? Someone who you've grown up playing the classic Mario with?

Lack of online hasn't really affected the sales of many Nintendo games, so is it really worth it? If it was something that could affect sales then maybe it might be worth it, but there really is no evidence that it will, so there is no need

Lack of online may not nesscessarily hurt games sales, but a support of online could improve sales and usage of Nintendo's service. Many of the 360 owners own it for its online and their willing to p;ay 59.99$ a year for it. While Nintendo offers a bare bones service for free, if they successfully implemented online play they could steal gamers away from the 360 or PS3.

People these days want online , its standard on the X-Box 360 and even nearly standard on the PS3 but on the Wii it is still a luxory. Why should Wii owners have to suffer, online support should be standard on the Wii as well!

I'm sorry Miyamoto, but when I play games I tend to look in the way of the TV, not the people I am playing with.

Sorry, but this a lame ass excuse.

@Avinash

I'm sorry, but I don't care at all about what hurts the sales or what doesn't. Just because sales won't be affected that means they shouldn't give us the option to play this with other people who are not in front of us? What if my friend has NSMBWii and he/she isn't over my house? What if I am not over their house? What if they live in another state? Should I just not care and think "Well, it won't affect their sales, so why add it?"

This is 2009, online play should be standard at this point.

Not adding it had nothing to do with wanting you to "see the persons face". It had to do with Nintendo not giving a damn and being too damn lazy to add it in, simple as that.

I glade atleast 1 person on this side of the forums is open minded...im shockied that so many added inclusion of a online is affending to the ppl here...I mean sure that everybody can enjoy the game no matter how you decide to meet is crime?? its fine not to care for online but why take away from others?.

We still discussing this, even if you make a good point that online should be included. Nintendo fanboys, will call you out, for not having friends. It's like trying to make a tree to move.

What? You never find the time to look at other people's faces while playing video games with them? I even find the time to point my finger at them and tell them how hard they suck.

I am 25 years old and have a child. For one I don't have people over all the time, so I like to go online every once in a while and play with the buddies I can't always have over.

When you're young you think online means nothing, but it means a lot, especially in a game like this for someone my age. That is one of the main reasons why to this day I still play LBP.

Get to my age and have a kid. Let me know how often you have 3 friends over to play video games.

I guess Miyamoto doesn't care about gamers like me though.

BTW, game is still fantastic, but I still think it should have had the ability for me to hook up with friends and/or total strangers.

Also, you can still tell them why they suck. Nintendo gave us Wii Speak for a reason you know?

I don't see how anyone would accept this, even if you personally wouldn't play the online. At least put it in there for those who'd like the option. Not everybody is going to want to use the 4 player functionality either - but it's still there for those who do. Same should be with online - for those who want it, it should be there.

Like others have said, this game screams laziness/rush job in two glaring points - the lack of a 4th non-toad character and online. I really think Nintendo knew that these two drawbacks wouldn't affect sales, but still, show your core fans some respect. I love Miyamoto and Nintendo as much as the next guy, but when they're wrong, you've gotta call them out on it. This would be one of those times, plain and simple.
