I don't want to say what I think of some of the posters above to avoid being banned for the first time ever. All I will say is it is well and truly ridiculous to dock points for lack of online when if you were told there would be a 2D Mario platformer you would have assumed it was going to be single player. They give you the bonus of multiplayer on top and all of a sudden it is a worse game because they didn't also give you online.

It is like a relative unexpectedly giving you £10,000 when you were expecting a £1,000 and then a month later you are insulting him for not giving you £15,000.

it's not a worse game, but i would expect more out of my money. If the game were cheaper, say $39.99, well i could forgive that.

What are you smoking?  Its well worth the money, Mario never was four player before, now it is, thanks for playing

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

They didn't take that many points off.
And it is touted as being a multiplayer game.

I'm not taking points off for not having online. I think there are plenty of games that do well enough without online (MGS4 probably should take a penalty for it's online lol).
It's just MP and online are like best friends. A solid MP game should have both local and online, or be docked some percentage.

You guys make a very good argument that it simply could not be done, but a lot of games have lag and people deal with it.

Although, in my world, games are rated based on what is available on the specific system. In this case, NSMBW would be somewhat higher than the score that it got. It's just that it's being compared to all other games out there, not against it's own ceiling.

Multiplayer does not mean online, Online is useless for most people, as most people don't play online, which is why Nintendo didn't waste resources on it

Are people seriously still defending no online? I can't believe it. I seriously can't. The game would be eons better with it, and it could be easily added. The game was a rush job people get over it.

No it wouldn't be better with it, it would just be a useless feature to the majority, and it would probably require resources to be pulled from the single player or the local multiplayer to implement it, so why cater to a howling minority?

Ya know online or no online this game is going to be awesome. I very much prefer local co-op anyways.

The reason is that if Nintendo had built online multiplayer into the game, then the howling minority of forum posters that own a Wii and want this implemented, 10K strong give or take, would have purchased this game. That's right Nintendo. You could have had another 10K in sales! Now you'll feel the pinch!

What about the ugly side of no online, here goes my conspiracy theory:
1) Their code doesn't cater to internet lag (lol) or the game play would be very annoying with constant "freezes"?
2) They want to sell more Wiimotes?
3) They don't want the online server costs?

Initially I didn't care for online, but the thought of playing with some of you lot isn't that bad.

Anyhoo, I hope Ninty is looking into online a little more seriously next gen, online games is a pretty big market etc etc. Can they afford to still use friend codes system?

I can't believe I read through this entire thread. How the hell can you go 200 posts back and forth about the same thing? The only ones who care about online are seemingly the ones who don't even like Nintendo that much. SURPRISING, ISN'T IT?
