I believe ioi tracks as much as he's capable of. Just because some folks yell: "oh, PS3 is under-tracked, or Xbox 360 is over-tracked", doesn't make the site any less credible, and adjustments are made accordingly. From my observation, the staff does what they can, and I trust the sales figures.
