Oh yeah, does Nintendo give you any sort of details upon returning the unit? Will they actually tell me what was wrong?

You might get some details, when mine was sent back from being repaired there was some paperwork in there that said the DVD drive had been replaced.

I am pretty curious as to what it is exactly, but I expect something like "memory problem" and that be it.

Did you try blowing on the disc and not pushing it in all the way?

Ahh the good old days. When all life's problems could be solved by hitting it, a good blow, or a soft push.

When you're in a relationship as a grown man, the old problem-solvers become life's goals............... ;)

If you live close to a repair center it's rather quick. I remember when I needed to fix my Wii I dropped it off at a UPS center on a Tuesday and got a new system back on Friday. There really shouldn't be anything to worry about with the Nintendo repair service, though I wish Nintendo could be quicker in sending me my Mario Hat I earned through Club Nintendo.

Try hitting the Wii a little. Sometimes it works.

If not send it to repairs, my only experience is with a game boy color. It took about 10 days.

Actually, I kinda suspect it being thrown around could've helped lead towards it. I've carried it in suitcases at airports several times and if you've ever flown, you probably know how poorly bags are treated sometimes.

I sent it out yesterday. I'm in California and it's going to their center in California. I used their premade shipping label, so it's Fedex, which I find interesting since they say they send it back UPS (I guess they like to be fair to the shipping companies), but Fedex says they expect it to arrive on the Monday the 10th. That seems a couple of days long to me. Usually packages go out day 1 to the closest sorting facility, day 2 travels to the sorting facility closest to the destination, and day 3 gets to the destination, so I'd think it should arrive Saturday. However, I don't usually use Fedex, so maybe this is par for them.

Well, I got it back today. The paper says, "repl damaged components" so replaced damaged components, which seems to mean they replaced the whole system. I had hoped since it was still possible to access the system that they would be able to recover and transfer over some things such as saves and/or the Miis, but they didn't, so I get to redownload things from the shop channel (for free as my account transferred), but there were a few games that wouldn't let me copy the save to the SD card and I only bothered saving a few Miis as I thought they would be able to transfer them, so most of those are gone. Maybe a more full loss report later after I have a chance to figure out which games wouldn't transfer saves.
