Ok.  How many gamers are there worldwide?  Tens of millions?

Ok.  3000 People know 40 million peoples opinions easily...that makes complete sense.

Not to mention, I can vote for every computer I use if I so wish.  And in my office alone, I use 5 pcs, not to mention the 7 at my house, 3 at my friends house, 4 at my sisters house, etc etc.  As you can see, this vote can never be considered completely accurate anyway, they host the polls for fun.  And the staff carries more weight in those decisions than someone who can vote on 15 different pcs.

Up there, yeah I agree.  But I think arguing that any single game is the best of 'all time' is one of the stupidest arguements you could ever try to make.  I could easily sit here and list off quite a few games I think are better.  Let's see...Super Mario 64 is better.  Zelda: A Link to the Past is better.  Chrono Trigger is better.  Secret of Mana is better.  Secret of Evermore is better. Goldeneye 007 is better.  MGS2 is better.  Gran Turismo 3 is better.

Do you see what I did right there?   I passed my own opinions off as fact.  The truth is, almost every gamer out there will give you a completely different list of games that they think are the best, when in reality best is on a per-person basis.  Arguing the best game of all time is like arguing who won E3 in my opinion.  The arguement simply doesn't make sense because a lot of people don't share the opinion that the game is the best of all time.  A lot may have it in their top 5, and a lot might have it as the best ever.  But I'm sure a lot don't even have it on the radar, either.

to me ocarina was the best game of all time until mgs4 came along..the game just had so many great moments, like the intense battles in the middle east or fighting alongside rebels in south america and the slow motion parts during the chase in europe and the entire level on shadow moses which reminded u of the origins of this amazing series...and who can forget the microwave hallway scene in the last act (which gamespot awarded the best moment of 2008)...for me it was a tough decision choosing mgs4 over OOT but i felt that this was finally the game that beat it and it was time to pass the torch on...so yes for me mgs4 is the greatest of all time

@ Phrancheyez: yes im receiving what ur saying. I do believe opinions matter alot to..so as patterns in videogames. posting chartz and all that yadda yadda brings a message. For developers is important. It lets them know whether to continue the recipe or change something.

At least it gives developers such as nintendo an idea of the kinds of videogames consumers seems to be looking forward for the most...So they can continue with their formula behind that specific game.

Sometimes majority rules.  OOT and Majoras mask were an inspiration.

Now if it goes down by opinion then i put my own just for the sake: A true videogame is not only a good videogame, but a true inspiration to designers as well.  Any videogame that gets admired by consumers and inspires is a trully masterpiece.  Is why i say OOT and Mario 64 sets the path.

Before you go on and on, the question isnt "the best", where everyone will have an opinion, but " the greatest", where you'll have to acknowledge that a game is so because of the widespread high critical acclaim and impact it has, and i really dont see any candidate better than OoT for that
