Forums - Gaming Discussion - And TGS goes to... Nintendo!?!? B.. B. But they weren't even there.....

I don't think Nintendo stole the show at TGS, but then again I'm not popular media.

Maybe because Nintendo was not there

I think this is the motive because this TGS is impressive for Nintendo side. Japanese publishers seem strongly supporting Nintendo consoles.

I think it's funny that the largest gaming expo in Japan was attended  from all major japanese publishers except Nintendo. Nintendo has about 50% software marketshare .

You of course realize I am speaking of third party Wii and DS games at the shown when I say Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't have to be there themselves to be considered in this matter.

Unfortunately volume matters a lot when it comes to popular conception. When a gamer in Japan opens a magazine in four weeks to check out the game show coverage they are going to see a couple articles on how Sony drug out the same old games they saw last year. They will read of the two perhaps three big Microsoft bomb shells. Then they will proceed to read a glorified Nintendo advertisement.

Thats all these shows are. Giant well organized communal marketing stunts. The more trees felled in your name the better. The more pages in the press you get the better. So in that sense if Nintendo had the most new games on the floor. Then chances are the popular conception is that Nintendo did better.

By the way anyone have any feelings about Circle of Doom. The game looks very nice. I see its going to launch before the end of the year in Japan, but have they released a North American date. I couldn't seem to find any information on this game.

The most telling thing to me was that poll (in another thread on this board) that showed the % of games at the conference / platform. Wii & DS were the easy winners, and the Wii was up from 3% (last year) to around 15% (this year).

If the Wii (& DS) managed to dominate sales this year, imagine whats going to happen next year with 4x the software (if not more) launching for it.

Can you find a link to this for me Shams? I can't seem to find it :X

He read a post of mine!  Yay!  it's in the Wii Bubble burst thread, look for my name.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Is there a list somewhere? I'd like to see the number of games coming out to each system.

I am Daemon. I am the Word.

i would liek to see a list as well--but it nice to hear the wii is getting some third party love--unlike the gamecube did

I would personally expect that part of the reason Nintendo would seem far more impressive from people who were actually at TGS would be the quantity of products for Nintendo platforms, another part that people probably haven't considered is what was being shown ...

Consider for a moment what was shown for the PS3 at TGS, the PS3's big games were Final Fantasy 13, Gran Turismo 5, and Metal Gear Solid 4; the exact same games that have been on display (in some form) at E3 2005, TGS 2005, E3 2006, TGS 2006, E3 2007 and TGS 2007. It may never match the quality or sales of a Final Fantasy game but King's Story is far more interesting than any Final Fantasy announcement simply because it is new.

Agreed. The Sony Hype Machine is pushing those three games like there's no tomorrow. Undoubtedly they'll be good, but consider the number of excellent Wii games on display, combined with the fact that Nintendo wasn't even there. If anyone's still doubting that there will be excellent third-party support for the Wii - and dwindling third-party support for the PS3 - then they're likely deluding themselves.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Kind of reminds me of Comdex. Once Apple decided not to show anymore, the attendance declined and eventually Comdex was killed. Companies hate these events because it forces them into artificial timelines and commitments.

I LOVE Nintendo!!! YEAH BOY!!

Everybody thought they were dead! And they showed that that old man still got some tricks up his sleeve for dem youngbucks.

Let's celebrate!
