Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Takes a Cheap Shot at OnLive! (Are they AFRAID or JUSTIFIED)??!

he's probably right, but I do think its partly fear.

Wii will still kick ass no matter what but if onlive ever got popular, it would kill the consoles.

The biggest problem with OnLive is network latencies along with internet speeds.

The reason why Reggie took a jab on it, is because of the people to who the service is targeted at, plays games that would need the technically most advanced infrastructure (or even more than it can offer today).
If OnLive catches wind, the first to be wiped out would be Steam. As long as Steam stays there, Nintendo has nothing to worry about.

Onlive and Steam aren't mutually exclusive. Both services have their strengths and just like Onlive, time works in favour of Steam. PC games are getting lower and lower requirements, and this trend will keep going as such until the hardware is so cheap that it wouldn't matter the hardware's price, which would cause a severely high penetration potential for Steam. Another plus for steam is that it doesn't require monthly fees.

Wii's movement based controls won't be able to be transferred to onlive. The ones that do have to worry are the ps3 and 360- they still use the simpler controllers.

Why would console companys be worried ?....  they will just need to change to the same business model.  Nintendo instead of having a games console, they will just have their own Onlive service with diffence games and sell thier own control pads and stuff.

Same with Sony and Microsoft.  This could also bring back companys should as Sega, Commodore, Sinclair etc.  Each service would have to complete with each other for games and giving US a better choice.

As it be all PC hardware, games will just get better and better every 6 months or so.  But I think its still to early for a service like Onlive to takeoff but in the future it may be the only thing.

PC gaming rules.....

I don't think anybody needs to be worried about onlive for quite a while. I think eventually we'll have systems like that, but right now that's just not going to happen.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Because he's making a general comment about it's feasibility, not a "Nintendo is still better" type comment.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Is Darthdevidem practicing to become a tabloid journalist? That headline looks like something one would see on The Sun. :p

OT: OnLive is probably too ambitious for its own good anyway.

You know my life's aim!!

lol j/k

I have been told before on VGC that my thread titles have "Tabloid-esque" headings

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Reggie bringing up Crysis here has tempted me to rewrite what he said as:

For a game like Scrabble, the graphics it takes for all that game data isn’t much. By for a state-of-the-art shooter game like “Crysis,” which has a high ends graphic engine, you may as well be playing with an Intellivision to be like the Wii, he said. “We’re not worried. We know the Wii can't do it.”

well playstation 4 is probably a bigger treat to Wii than OnLive...i mean...if Sony stay to there 10 years plan it will still be out before a working OnLIve

What PS4?  The PS3 is the future Now... Believe (CURSE YOU SONY FANBOYS.  YOU GOT ME DOING IT!), so expect the PS3 to be Sony's console, NOW AND FOREVER.  And you can thank Sony for providing it FREE to all PS3 owners.  Free online play and free games!  WOO!
