Forums - General Discussion - Paramount and Dreamworks backs HD-DVD exclusively!

Ok ,now I see it .
One of the more stupid decisions ever .I suppose when they sell 100K of their megaton movies they will reconsider this .
It particularly astounds me the reasons they have given " looking to the manufacturing costs and current price of the format " .My god ,BR movies are already less expensive than HD-DVD ones and as for the players price Sony and the BR camp will be easily capable of reducing their price way faster than Toshiba as they are producing at 4x the rate readers ....

Paramount has just shoot themselves on the foot ,but yes ,this is bad news for Blu Ray .

The format war needs to continue for about another year then Prices for players will be around $299 maybe lower and movies will be $15 maybe less so until mid-08 the format war should continue then i hope Blu-ray wins cause then i can start buying some big titles until then i am not buying them for the fact Blu-ray might go the way of the Betamax.Doubt it but you never know.

Yeah, with the millions they have coming in from DVD sales still, they'll never survive.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Less expensive for consumers when comparing Bluray discs to HD Combo discs.  Otherwise, it's priced the same.  BUT, it is COST less to manufacture HD DVD since it's based on DVD technology, not like the proprietary technology from Sony's Bluray.

Looking at the mass market, most consumers go for lower price.  That's the reason for Walmart's success and dominance.  Not everyone goes for the more expensive technology.  I'm sure people at Paramount are not stupid.  Maybe they know something consumers don't.

this is screaming mega blueray fanboy.

Blue ray less expensive then hd dvd?

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I think he's referring the one and only occurance with 300 where the HD DVD is priced higher because it comes with both the DVD & HD DVD format for $5 more than the blu ray format.

At this rate, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players will find themselves competing against HVD players. It doesn't seem like this format war is ever going to end. It looks like investing in a combination Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player will be the best thing to do for the forseeable future.

Anyone heard that quote in the news about Paramount receiving 50 Million dollar and Dreamworks 100 million dollar due to this agreement ?

If so where do you think the money is coming ?Microsoft or Toshiba ?

It took them a year and a half but Paramount and Dreamworks made the right move in supporting HDDVD and not the PS3 whoops I mean BLURAY.

imo.. its not a big lose.. its more of a lose to microsoft handing out all this money. Blu-ray will win this war in the end as Blu-ray is getting cheaper and cheaper.
