Forums - General Discussion - Paramount and Dreamworks backs HD-DVD exclusively!

Don't know if this has already been said but I just read this on Gizmodo. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/bye-bye-blu_ray/paramount-and-dreamworks-animation-go-exclusively-hd-dvd-291339.php All I can say now is I may have to get a HD-DVD player just for Transformers.

Erm Transformers is directed by Steven Speilberg and all movies EXCEPT Steven Speilberg movies are going HDDVD exclusive so you dont need to buy a HDDVD player for Transformers.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

Wow. Didn't see that coming. Just when you think it's safe to actually by a high def format, the pointless format war comes back with a vengeance. :p

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

um....?

Transformers was directed by Michael Bay.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

"Today's announcement does not include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive to either format."

Nope. Speilberg Produced it, but Michael Bay Directed it. So it's going HD-DVD exclusive

Actually it makes a lot of sense to get a dual player at this point rather than lose out. I imagine when I make the leap in players the cost should drop to bellow 200. For now I am happy with my laser disc player. :D

Blu-Ray gained most of its support because it was going to be the format of the PS3 and people expected the PS3 to sell at a similar rate to the PS2 ... With Sony's initial release date of the PS3, and with it being a worldwide release, this meant that there would be 10 Million Blu-Ray playing PS3 systems in people's homes as of January 1st 2007; by January 1st 2008 the format war was supposed to be over because Blu-Ray was supposed to be on its way to being the fastest adopted format in history.

Right now neither HD-DVD or Blu-Ray are selling at a rate which is particularly impressive and they're not selling at a rate which is that much different from eachother. I suspect that Paramount and Dreamworks took advantage of HD-DVD being the lower selling format to negotiate better licencing terms from the HD-DVD group than they could from the Blu-Ray group in exchange for being mostly exclusive.

Worst Birthday Ever :(

 1. Mean email from Co-worker

 2. The software system I manage has a bug

 3. And right after basically committing to Blu-ray this crap happens.
