Ok I dont want this to look like I am only showing one side of this so I am going to lay down all the facts of the matter. Yet I feel this finally portrays the true thoughts of many journalists when speaking of PS3 and Sony's situations in the Console War.

Firstly. This is Landis, a journalist from Ripten. He put out a article saying "Dear Internet: Quit Overhyping Killzone 2!".

Like most things in life, the more something is hyped, the higher your expectations. Killzone 2 is currently the subject of so much hyperbole that it’s starting to damage what people will think of the game.

Killzone 2, as you may have heard, is the best thing in the world since sliced bread. The only problem with that notion is that Killzone 2 does not make as delicious of a sandwich.

Just taking a gander at gaming hubs like N4G, the past week has been ruled by articles about Killzone 2. Most of these articles range from relatively small sites to some well-established sites, each of which claiming that Killzone 2 will absolutely blow your mind. Of course, there are also a few saying that Killzone 2 is just another shooter and that it’s not a big deal.

I happen to be somewhere in the middle. I’ve actually gotten my hands on Killzone 2 for just a few minutes, but I also hung around and watched other people play it rather extensively. As far as first-person shooters go, Killzone 2 is great — some might even go so far as to say it’s fantastic. What Killzone 2 isn’t, however, is a ‘killer app’.

Killzone 2 is not going to move systems. Killzone 2 is not going to convert Xbox owners. Killzone 2 is not going to cure cancer or resurrect the dead. Killzone 2 is simply a great shooter, and that’s it.

The main problem with all of these sites claiming otherwise is that it is actually going to damage the impressions people get from the game. Expectations are so high right now with all of the hype that people have no choice but to be disappointed. As great as it is, it is impossible for Killzone 2 (or any other game, for that matter) to live up to the tremendous amount of hype surrounding it.

I only say this because I’m concerned for my fellow gamers. I don’t want people to be disappointed when they should be excited. I don’t want the hype to ruin the game for them, much like it did for me and GTA4. I curse IGN to this day for handing out “the first 10 since 1999” and making me believe that the game was more than it was.

So please, citizens of the Internet, I beg you: stop overhyping Killzone 2 before you end up spoiling everyone’s fun. Thank you. I will now take my leave of the Ripten soapbox.

Ok so thats that. He actually makes some good points about Hype ruining some games but then he messed up when he said the things in blue. Firstly, he only PLAYED the game for a few minutes, no where near enough to be developing a grande personal opinion on the game as he did. THEN he actually says that Killzone 2 is NOT a killer app!!?! If the game is, in his word and the media's word, "Great" and "Fantastic", then why wouldn't it be? That is what should sell a game right? THe fact that its a good game, not the system it is on. If Killzone 2 is in a manner of speaking, better then COD4 and Halo 3 in graphics AND gameplay why should it not sell on their level? Excluding the factor of marketing, this game should do just fine.

Also, Why single out Killzone 2? He states that he also believed that Gears and Halo did not deserve the 10/10s that RIPTEN had given them, that they were overhyped. Yet he centers this entire article on a game that he admits to being better then both of them. Why not make the article about all of these over-hyped shooters? That would have definitely saved himself from the rabid posters.

Needless to say the fans of the game ripped him a new one on the boards. The relentlessly cut down his title as a journalist and his article. Some warrented, others not. Yet as a journalist you should never respond in such a way as this....

Seriously though, I find it amazing the amount of stupidity that comes from the Sony community when someone says something only looks “OKAY” as apposed to the super fucking awesome that it’s supposed to be. You know what? I think Killzone 2 looks like FUCKING ASS!!!! There, I said it. It looks like another shitty first person shooter that will try and take the supposed crown from Halo but fail miserable, which just goes to show how much it will suck because Halo isn’t really that good of a game to start with. What’s sad is the tenacity that you people have to defend it.

There have been articles on this website about xbox games being over hyped or in some way flawed but there is never as many xbox gamers coming out of the woodwork to defend their system’s games as there are PS3 gamers. You know why I think that is? It’s because people playing the xbox actually have games to play instead of constantly looking for the great savior to be developed. Guess what? Killzone 2 could be the most bad ass super awesome killer app ever made but guess what… it’s not going to mean jack shit because no one is willing to go out and blow a thousand dollars on a fucking gaming system just to play one shitty game. Resistance 2 was supposed to be fucking awesome also, and I’m sorry, but in my personal opinion, it was not fun. The only fun I’ve had on the PS3 was Little Big Planet. THAT game was awesome, but most of the fun from that came from playing with friends. It was a cute little relaxing platformer and a nice change of pace from blowing shit up or ripping people’s heads off all the time.

I just don’t see how you can justify getting so bent out of shape about a fucking shooter. They’re a dime a dozen. To me all these comments trying to bust Dan’s balls simply show to me that PS3 fans are bored ass fourteen year olds who want to be gangstaz when they grow up, at least a majority of them. Most of the PS3 gamers I know personally are older family types that got the system for one of two reasons, if not both: BlueRay and they already had a PS2 so they just wanted to upgrade.

By the way, METAL GEAR 4 SUCKS!!!

Look at his first 3 lines. He says " I can be a Troll too!" meaning he is just imatating what he sees to be a troll. That part I believe was his joking side. Yet then he goes into his paragraph, saying "Seriously though," meaning the joke has ended and he is back to the serious face. That means he trully believes the garbage he was spewing.

This trully reveals him for the inner XBOT fanboy that he is. He even goes out of his way to piss off MGS4 fans and Resistance 2 fans who have nothing to do with this article.

Why did I post this on VGchartz you ask? Because the next time I claim the media has bias against the PS3 and a 360 fan tries to refute it, I will simply refer back to this article/post. If you could not see it before, Killzone 2 has brought it out of the most well hidden of 360 zealot journalists...

The American media has never had a flagship American console before. I'm sure it works the same way in Japan with them favoring PS3 and Wii.

NO. Artistic value in videogames is highly questionable, games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami have a great emphasis on art and design. Killzone 2 is a technical achievement in certain aspects but it isn't a work of art.

Playstation fanboys (not fans) are the most sensitive people on the planet. If someone says a game looks ok you get a billion sony fanboys screaming about the cells power and how the PS3 lineup and brand "destroys" everything. And they always take it to the next level by calling people names and stuff. Don't believe my point? Go take a look real quick at the comments on the 360 games in 09 article. Its laughable how intense some sony fans get (obviously i mean fanboys not fans. I love my ps3 and don't run around crying about it and neither do some others on this site).

While that may be true I think it is a bit warrented in some cases. Think about it. Where are the most high tech and most RELIABLE machinery from? JAPAN! Damn sure not america.

From life experience I have learned one thing, NEVER BUY AMERICAN(if there is a choice). American products (that are home grown) are usually the shadiest and crappiest of them all. We as americans don't know how to make a good QUALITY product. Now MARKETING a product is a whole nother ball game, we can market our ass off and make our shitty products look like gold.

Proof that American products suck at a quality standpoint and Japanese/Foreign products are better?
-Ford cars, enough said. So crappy that even Americans refuse to buy them and the government has to bail them out of debt.
-360: RROD galore! MS knew the system had issues and they put it out anyway. They were definitely not looking out for the consumer.
