Taiwanese IT website DigiTimes ran a story today citing Taiwan-based component makers, who reportedly said supply constraints of IC chips and PCBs have “delayed Nintendo's plans to expand production of its Wii games console, originally set for June.”

Such a delay in production would further hamper Nintendo’s efforts to meet demand for the popular Wii in the second half of this year.

A Nintendo of America rep didn’t deny such a production delay, but still said the company won’t be adjusting its hardware targets. “Nintendo has no revisions to announce to its most recent shipment forecasts at this time,” he stated in an e-mail.

Global sales of the Wii were 9.27 million units as of the end of June this year.

In July, Nintendo raised its current fiscal year Wii worldwide ship target to 16.5 million units from 14 million.

Thank you for that Viper. So now we have confirmation that they will still meet their forcasts, its just that it appears they wanted to exceed them, but werent able to due to some shortages. That is fine, as if they meet their expectations they stated a month or so ago they will still move a great deal more consoles this holiday than MS or Sony. We just wont get to see them lay waste to everyone by an unimaginable margin is all. But theres still going to be 4+ million out there this winter.

Nothing to see here, move along.
