Forums - PC Discussion - FREE PC GAMES THREAD

I figured that since PC gaming has a lot of quality free games to offer, perhaps PC gamers have missed out on some of these nice freebies.

I'm listing them in one thread so that PC gamers can get their game on the cheap - especially while waiting for all the new PC and console games to be released.

If you have any other games to add, please do so, provided that:

  • Any game that can be legitimately downloaded and does not cost anything to own can be included.
  • As per forum rules, please don't post any warez or torrent stuff if it's illegal.
  • Links to websites or pages that have free, legally-acquired games are also welcome.
  • No links to Flash, Java or browser-based games please!

For example, technically you cannot download Betrayal at Krondor anymore because Vivendi Universal holds the license rights, but then again, you can still find Betrayal at Krondor at many reputable sites, including Download.com and Softpedia.com.

Some gaming veterans should remember a lot of these games - and perhaps even fond memories!

For others, if you've never played it before, it's new to you!

Anyway, frugal PC gamer, they are all free, so have fun downloading!

Castle of the Winds = love.
Man that game is literally my earliest memory of gaming. Downloaded it a couple of months ago and clocked it again, might do it again in a month or so.

May I recommend home of the underdogs (www.the-underdogs.info I think) and abandonia (www.abandonia.com) for their abandonware needs. The two ones I use occasionally when I want to find some really old game.

Please feel free to recommend any one as long as it complies with the bullet points near the beginning of the original post.

I'll update this list daily and continue to do so if there is enough movement to support this thread.

Thanks for your contributions, BTW.

Nice list...I'd say more but I'm too busy playing games...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

If you haven't tried out Battle for Wesnoth you are missing out on a very good game. Neverball is also a quality game and very fun.

"N" is a 2D puzzle platformer that will be coming to PSP and DS.

EDIT: Oops, game already on list.

I appreciate this thread more than you could possibly imagine.

Thank you.

I just wanted to say thank you for taking time compling this impressive list. Cheers

I see that Freespace 2 is on that list. I can hopefully offer a little more information on it as well because I am a big fan of it.

Freespace 1 and 2 are free and can be obtained legally. It had it's source code released to the public a couple of years ago. Fans of the games worked together to create Freespace Open, which can be found in the forums below.

Through this, the contributions made to reviving the game have given the 7-8 year old graphics a complete overhaul, making them look MUCH better.

A MMorpg called Conquer Online is free to play and isn't on that list if anybody is interetsed. It's not the greatest thing, but it is free.

Oh wow, thanks a lot. I was looking for something to do in my free time.

Thinking about downloading America's Army.
