Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the wii eventally slow down?

What is Everstar thinking the Wii sales are? The Nikkei Index?

It's not like the Wii sales will suddenly plunge sharply all of a sudden. Sales drops come gradually, not sharply.

from now on, every time someone makes a stupid post i'm going to smash my head against the wall.

There are better and less painfull ways to commit suicide.

BTW, the Wii will sell less than the (fake) HD consoles this Christmas, according to this reliable article:

http://kotaku.com/5086556/ea-take+two-nintendo-and-ubisoft-cautious-about-christmas-spending

Oh, Kotaku. You never fail to bring the douche. And this posted just a couple days before NPD reports that the Wii has broken non-holiday sales records... again.

If anything, I expect the crisis to affect the "hardcore" more than the retarded casual gamer. Think about it:

1) Expanded audience people have real jobs. The part time workers will have to choose between Gears 2 and the rent (even so I expect some to chose Gears of War).

2) They don`t need to borrow money from mom. The "casuals" are the moms. Which one do you think they will chose: CoD WW for their foul mothed kids or Wii Fit to help them fit into that new dress.

3) There is always next year. Madden, Need for Speed, FIFA, Pro Evo, Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six. All this crap will come out next year. The game will be the same and play the same, minor upgrades and will get the same 80+ rating on Metacritic/Gamerankings. Animal Crossing, Wii Music and Wii Fit are once (maybe twice) in a generation experience. Get it while it is hot.

4) RROD. If you can`t play it you`d better not buy it.

5) Christmas is the perfect time to act as a fool. Playing Wii Sports with your relatives is the best way to do so. Considering there are more people that have "friends" or "family" to spend time playing together, the Wii will be the most played this Xmas. Don`t feel bad if you spent your Xmas fragging some nubs online, casuals don`t know any better.

Of course sales and intrest will slow eventually, just not right now. Nintendo is going to ride this pony as far as it can possibly ride it.........then they are going to offer it in 4 new colors and ride it some more. The Wii has legs of 2 years minimum. The Wii is a platform that Nintendo can build on. They have already made more money that I think even they thought they were going to make on the DS and the Wii respectively so I think the experimentation that they are doing with the Wiimotes and the like is great. The next Wii ( that will be called something else I'm sure) is going to have all the things that we wanted in this Wii plus some stuff that we never expected. I can't wait.

Why can't people let this this thing about how wii sales will suddenly drop die. Every year it's proven wrong and every year people say "well next year it will happen".

I think it is showing signs of slowing down. In Japan at least. SW sales are horrendous. Still though the HD consoles don't seem to be showing that many signs of catching up. Maybe in SW but i'm not much of an analyst so don't particularly notice trends. So not sure how relevant that is,as Japan doesn't appear to be that important a market right now. In the Americas though, there is certainly no slowing the Wii right now. I did read one of the analysts on this site saying trends usually start in Japan though so maybe that is some indication things might be changing? Although i don't personally see much changing for a while and even then it will happen over time. You can be sure, though, that if the big N saw signs of Wii demand dropping then there would be price cuts/bundles/new colours etc to arrest that slide and am sure it would work at least temporarily.

Wow, I though that after a year the stupidity in the VGchartz forum would have gone down, but apparantly its still here.

Yes Wii will eventually slow down, all consoles slow down, even PS2 and NES slowed down.

However PS3 and 360 will not outsell the Wii, at least not on a regular basis, maybe once or twice a year when a big game comes out or a huge price drop occurs, but on a regular basis, nope.

See the key is most people don't care about HD graphics or other such garbage found on the PS3 and 360. Most people care about fun, and aren;t interested in plunking down hours trying to grind their way through Gears, what they want is a quick game of Wii tennis or a jog in Wii fit, to race around in Mario Kart or to go fishing in Animal crossing. These types of games don't require huge investment of time or effort to achieve fun. And they can fit easily into a person's day.

If anything its the 360 and PS3 which are nearing or at their peaks and will likely be slowing down in the next year or two.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

*sigh* This same topic again! The Wii won this generation. Its over. PS3/360 are fighting for 2nd.

I guarantee that they will not out sell wii weekly bases next year like you say. People just want that to happen because they dislike Wii. Get over it.

Well if the wii is anything like the DS sales wise, which it seems to be (actually better in the same period of life), then NO!!

Yes it will slow down because the Xbox360 and the PS3 are real consoles. The wii is just a fad, like a furby. People will wake up and realize that the wii is just a toy, an expensive game board. That Nintendo stabbed in the back to their loyals fans and keep cattering to moms and retards. Because Microsoft and Sony are teh kings and they will rise the phoenix and they will return to be in the top again...

A stupid answer for a stupid question. Happy now?

I appreciate a prediction with supporting reasons, but can't the reasons at least be different from the ones used in previous years? After all, those predictions were proven wrong.
