Forums - General Discussion - Do you tip the cashier at the take out counter at resteraunts?

We rarely if ever tip in Australia. About the only people who do get tips are food delivery drivers. From what i understand though our wages in the hospitality industry are pretty good compared to the US.

I certainly tip the waiter or waitress who's been seving me all evening if it's good service but I've never heard of tipping the cashier.

I also request the same person attends to my room when I'm in a hotel abroad and tip them well, it also means if anything goes missing there are few others I could point the finger at.

No. I always thought that was printed out because it's some kind of standard thing. Yeah most people cross out the tip line because people can write ones in for themselves. It's happened to me at Pizza places. I would assume that's why she scoffed at you, or maybe it coulda been a thing like "I'm not gonna steal from you" type of thing, but I dunno. Yeah I wish places like that used a different format or whatever so that tip line doesn't come out.

I'm Australian so I never tip. People have wages for a reason.

I think the tipping system is stupid. Why not just include it in the food so your waiter/resses treat everyone the same?

Try going in the same place with your friend who dress in suit and you in casual clothes and see who gets better treatment.
