Forums - General Discussion - Do you tip the cashier at the take out counter at resteraunts?

So who'se made the protest tip.

The single penny, the "don't pee in the wind" note.

Who's been bad serviced right over the tipping cliff?

I once had service so bad that the 6 of us decided our only course of action was to tip with my five cents Canadian Tire money. I knew I had that on me for a reason.

Cashiers aren't susposed to take tips, they can get in trouble.

No1 tips here in Finland...I don't know why you should tip,and if you don't people will shoot you...
Where did it start?

Take my love, take my land..

Sometimes... when it's like € 13,45.. and I pay with a € 20 bill I don't want to get some loose coins in my pocket.. i'll say make it € 14... so I get € 6 back..

And back in the days when I was a waiter I made more money with tips then my actually paycheck.. Summer, a nice smile, a lot of women & a bit flirting could easliy make me € 10 in tips in a hour while my paycheck was € 7,20...

Not to go off topic, but I love $0.60 boneless wings night! I get the Asian Zing, Mango Habanero, Spicy Garlic and Caribbean Jerk.

Damn, why isn't it yesterday?

I go with 6 Asian Zing and 6 Hot BBQ most of the time.  A fair balance of awesomeness.  Plus you can't beat 22oz beers for $2 even if it just Keystone.

I come from a Dad who tips generously so that is kind of in my veins.  I mean I try to just round off to the closest dollar really.  I never tip Cashiers though, that's just silly.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

I get Sweet BBQ myself.

From that article:

European restaurants generally add a ten percent gratuity to the bill.

I've lived in three different European countries, visited a ton more and I have never seen any percentage automatically getting added to bills. In fact, I haven't even seen anyone tipping based on a percentage. Based on my experience, when people tip it's usually some amount they feel like giving.
