Forums - General Discussion - Do you tip the cashier at the take out counter at resteraunts?

Its kind of awkard to tip the cashier. I mean don't they get a paycheck worth enough. Besides the difference between cashiers and waiters or waitress is waiters and waitress are meant to be tipped. I think you shouldn't tip the cashier but its just my opinion.

Maybe she wasn't responding to what you put on the Tip line. Maybe she was disappointed with your handwriting. ~_n

Ridiculous if she expects a tip.. I work in a warehouse and put hvy tvs and stands in trunks and dont get tips 70% of the time.

I tip a waitress couple bucks and when I get my hair buzzed I give 3 bucks

About the only thing I figure is that she was stupid hot, it was Thursday at Buffalo Wild Wings ($0.60 boneless wings night), and loads of stupid drunk guys that I'm sure giver her a tip just for her acknowledging their existence.

I guess she just expects a tip from everybody since she's hot and therefore deserves it?

@twesterm: Well, you didn't say that! That changes everything. You should always tip the hot girl...

Edit: wait a minute, she was DRUNK ALSO!?!?!!! You should've just gave her all your credit cards...

I never tip period. I know that I may sound cheap but tipping someone doesn't make much sense to me. When I work at my job the home owners won't come over and give me a tip for doing a good job, and it's not like waiters/waitress don't get paid so why should I tip them if there getting paid an hourly wage like everyone else?

It's because they don't get paid a fair wage. Labor laws regarding wages do not apply in the same way to waiters and waitresses. They do rely on the tips to supplement their salary. I'm sorta shocked you didn't already know this.

Waiters/waitresses get paid a low hourly rate + tip. It's the tips that they work for. The hourly rate for a waiter is usually half of the minimum wage.

....didn't know that, maybe I might not be so cheap next time

Sometimes they don't get hourly pay and only work for tips.

In some restaurants, the busboy/receptionist, waiters/waitresses, bartenders and maybe even the cooks all pool the tip together and split it. Which means that they all get low wages and work for tip.

Usually when I got out and eat, I pay with a credit card and don't put tip on the Tip line. I slip the waiter/waitress cash for tip. I want the money to go to the person that was waiting me, not for everyone to share.
