Sometimes I can't help thinking some people take video games far too seriously.

However to address the points in the original post. Previous generations had involving and complex games that were far more than pick up and play. This generation the video game market is growing, developers are far from stupid and will continue to develop these games, very possibly in a greater number than before. Some of these games will be made possible by the income generated by a game like Wii Fitness.

Come on, the people making the games are lifelong video game fans, they love to make great games as much as they do playing them. It's naive to think all games will be Brain Training.

Also, what on earth does ****c mean in the original post? I cannot work it out.

well I think these words show that we can all calm down, thank you pobladofx for posting them and good night.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

This is how the video games industry grows up, stops being elitist - and starts appealing to everyone.

A bit like the movie or music industry (how many movies or songs come out that DON'T appeal to any one person? No one complains about that - because we are all used to it).

Welcome to the generation of the non-gamer.

Bring it on!

I'm going to debunk this right now, you may think they are focusing their marketing on casual gamers, but the system still appeals in every way to gamers and Nintendo fans of the past. Nintendo's 1st party lineup is just like it would be during the NES, SNES, N64, or Gamecube. Here is most of Nintendo's 2007 lineup from now on...

Mario Strikers
Metroid 3
Disaster
HAMMER (might be cancelled)
Battalion Wars 2
Endless Ocean
Wii Music
Mario Galaxy
Fire Emblem
Smash Bros
Wii fit

It's just like any other year, it's not flooded with casual games, plenty of games that appeal to all kinds of gamers there.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Funny how the games they wanted back in Gamecube days included RE 4 and Eternal Darkness but now those games are for the fetishes of man-boys? lol...

Check a Gamecube top sales list, and a Wii release list. Hint: you won't find Eternal Darkness on the first list, but you will find multiple RE games on both.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Anyways... Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Smash and Kart in the first 18 months of Wii. Pokemon and Zelda on DS in the same time period... Those games represent Nintendo's core, and they aren't being watered down... So... Shut up.

That's it.

Konichiwa, I understand your feelings, but as long as Nintendo keeps releasing those games, you really can't complain. I also agree with you that Zelda was easy, but did that hurt the experience? I for myself had a lot of fun playing it, and I doubt you can honestly say you hadn't.

No you can complain. You know why? You need more good games from nintendo. You always want new franchises. Come on isn't this true? Don't you want Kid Icarus or something?

If Sony just kept making sequels to their games instead of making new interesting games, I would be pretty fuckin's pissed.

Nintendo is great because they were able to adapt Zelda, Metroid and Mario to 3d and made them even better than before while usually companies' 2D games become disastrous in 3D (Mortal Kombat, Sonic).

You seriously don't want new franchises? Some new thing, like Pikmin and Batallion Wars last generation or 3D Metroid?

Hell I want a console sequel to Starfox really badly.

I do have to agree with you. They are developing Disaster(H.A.M.M.E.R. is on hold) so they do make new franchises. But, they seem to rely on old ones as they tend to make the most money. It gets tricky with new games. Nintendo has always pleased on their new titles but haas trouble with making new ones., Nintendo has a lot of other IPs they have developed, but a lot of their departments are cloged with older game.

Sorry, I guess that was a bit pointless.

But is Nintendo abbandoing their coure gamers. NO. They don't have much this year becuase they have a lot. You have the big three coming as well as Fire Emblem and Battalion Wars(definatly not casual games). They will have more next year. And more next year. They don't have as much becuase, yes, they are making fgfor the casual audience as well. Also, don't forget Nintendo isn't tellingg you the whole story. Wait till TGS to see more new titles for 08.

Whatever, I'm sure some elitists won't like the Wii this generation.

Sucks for you...I'm gonna have fun with all kinds of games.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I find it amusing that people seem to think Nintendo can single handedly destroy video gaming as it exists today. I mean, obviously if all the "non-gamers" buy the wii, which completely ignores the core gamers, suddenly the gaming industry will get flushed down the toilet.

People like this act as if Nintendo is forcing everyone to buy their products or follow their example. Or, are you worried that Sony and Microsoft will wake up and realize that the 90% of people who aren't core gamers deserve a little love as well? Are you worried that the Ps4 will be a non-gamer system as well? The Xbox720 will discontinue hardcore games and just make party games?

If you truly believe that, then I'm not sure what else can be said to convince you otherwise. Hardcore games will not go away just because one company, no matter how powerful, changes their focus. Nintendo hasn't released any guidelines telling 3rd parties that only casual games are allowed on the wii. They've done the opposite and tried to attract games like Manhunt 2 and Red Steel. They certainly haven't stopped Sony or Microsoft from creating their own consoles and developing whatever they want.

If you want to blame anyone for the direction the industry is headed, you should blame yourselves for demanding increasingly complex and graphically intense games, but not buying enough of them to make it worth the effort to the studio's. Those studio's don't owe you jack s**t. If you don't make those epic games worth their development time, then you only have yourselves to blame. Money talks, so you want epic games, put your money where your mouth is and help those games succeed financially.

I say we boycott Nintendo for making games for everyone. Then we go boycott Sony for making those Spiderman movies for everyone instead of just keeping it in comic books where Spiderman belongs. Then boycott MS for making everyone use their software. These companies must be stopped!!!

well but konnichiwa, NOBODY announced new games at E3! Please tell me a game that has been announced only at E3 and we didn't know about before. I don't think there are more than five worth mentioning, one of them is Mario Kart.

Let we go ten years ago in the past when Nintendo 64 was launched me as an Nintendo fanboy that time was one of the happiest boys in the world.  I see my old friends in 3D and I can tell you I was almost crying when I saw Mario in 3D and the same with Zelda but when I was playing N64 I made some new friends like Banjo Kazooie who were damned so great I am pretty sure when you think about your N64 you are probably thinking about the great time you had with Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dard and golden Eye...

But now ten years later they don't surprise me anymore, Okay we have mario again, Metroid but when I was watching
the NIntendo conference 07 I was expecting Miyamoto would jump on the floor and introduce a new character into
the nintendo universe just for example Zario the crazy evil half blood brother of Mario who lives in Russia who is so
scary that Bowser and Wario are shitting their pants of when they see him.

And make an game about him.

I mean Miyamoto is the best or one of the best gaming developpers of the world I can not believe he
doesn't have any ideas anymore.

I just want that kind of magic back when I played the Snes and was introduced to Donkey Kong country or N64
banjo Kazooie.

I miss it.

And if you are happy about it okay but I miss it.
