Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Do you try to unlock every achievement or do you just play the game?

Just a question to some Xbox 360 users...Do you play through the game to unlock every single achievement or do you just play the game and whatever unlocks...simple unlocks?

I'm almost done with Halo 3 but I'm having a hard time getting the "Overkill Achievement". It's crazy hard!!!

I play through the game and if its not much extra I may go for an achievement or if its fun to try and take a few minutes. If the achievement is too hard or not fun I dont go for it I play games for enjoyment

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Example Blue Dragon - I beat the game and only have 30 achievement points.. I've never touched it again

I don't mind replaying to get the perfect 1000, but if it looks impossible then I just move on to the next game.

Well I've been aiming at this "Overkill Achievement" for about 4 days straight and approximately 15 hours of gameplay time on it.

Someone told me to get King of the Hill on the Pit and take people out with the turret to get the achievement. But I haven't got to King of the Hill on the Pit yet...So I might just come back to it later or just give up on it altogether. Cause this achievement is really freaking hard. It's hard getting an Overkill now. Cause you need to kill 4 people within 4 seconds.

Hard indeed!

Did you get Overkill achievement in Halo 3?

No, I'm no achievement whore.

I play games for fun.

I check the achievements first, See which ones are obtainable during the first playthrough and then if i still enjoy the game i will try to mop up the rest of the achievements during the second playthrough, If the game has no online achievements (Call of duty 4) Then i just take my sweet time with it..... I got 935 points on Halo 3 but im in no hurry to get achievements like killing frenzy and steppin razor simply because that game will always have loyal fans and newcomers alike purchasing the game for years to come....... Dead rising for example i love to bits and played through the game 6 or 7 times until i got every last achievement, Saints row i will forever be stuck on 490 G's because i corrupted a save file and theres no way in hell im going through everything again to get to the latter achievements, Its a tough question to answer, But i would say i do get some of the easier or less time consuming ones first and then at a later date i fucus on the more difficult and more time cunsuming ones.......... I still have to drive a further 500 miles on colin mcrae DIRT for the 1000 miles driven achievement and despite thinking the game is not bad i'm now a tad bored of it so will just chip away bit by bit at the remianing 500 miles, And lost planet, i have kept the game and i know its achieveable but can i really be assed going back to collect all the tokens on the levels? Only time will tell......

I mostly just play the game then I'll try to get the achievements later, unless it is too hard. Right now, I'm still trying to get the Seriously achievement in Gears of War.

My cousin has been trying off and on for months to get Overkill with no luck. He's gotten several dozen triple kills where the last guy is nowhere to be found. =P

Take it from an obsessive freak like me who's trying to quit, you'd probably be happier just forgeting about it. You can wind up hating a game in the time it takes to get something like that if your luck is lousy enough.

I try to go for 75% of them, and usually those are easy to get on a play thru or two, after that you start to get (generally now) the one that take the fun out of the game and just mean grinding like x amount of kills and so on
