Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Currently #1 on Amazon

I don't plan on making any definite predictions about how much this price cut will boost sales in the long run, but it is definitely having an effect right now, at least on Amazon and probably other online retailers.  Hell, Circuit City has a deal where you get a free controller AND 5 free Blu-Ray movies.

My guess is sales will increase somewhere between 50-100% on average.  My lowest estimate would be 30% to the weekly average.  Please post your thoughts on short term/long term effects of the price cut and how these current numbers affect things.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. FWIW, the 360 elite was #1 on Amazon during the weekend.

In comparison, The Eilte is now 25 or so. Amazon can be pretty volatile, which could go the same for the PS3's ranking.

thats good 4 the ps3..the Elite was in fourth till this then dropped to 25th, of course it could have been because it sold out or lack of demand now but. Amazon is usually the first to see the effects of these kinds of things

A sales spike none the less is good for the ps3. this is all happening while the heavy hitting games are still not out yet. the recent good releases makes it easier to buy a ps3 during the summer game drought. NGS, Darkness and Rainbow Six vegas, resistance sales and oblivion should all get a little boost at new owners need to play something. Also the sales going up before new E3 anouncments problably make it look like an even better time to buy.

and there wont be any sales stoppages like the Wii usually gets as the PS3 is in alot greater stock and much better production as they stated last week. if it stays at number 1 then things are truly heating up theis week.

You will always get an immediate sales spike which is followed by a return to more 'normal' sales for a product after a price cut. With how 'small' the PS3's price cut was, and that it is still a very expensive system, I expect that sales will not have improved that much a couple of weeks from now ...

Elite is still in stock as of now at #26. All of the other consoles are in the top 25 (minus the core), with the Wii at #2 currently sold out.
