Forums - Gaming Discussion - I am sick of this 360 RPG arguement.

Ok, i have seen alot of threads saying that the PS3 doesn't have RPG's that are worth playing and therfore it is a weak system. But hang on, couldn't this arguement be easily flipped?

Who has the best driving games? = PS3 (Motorstorm & GT)

Who has the best shooters? = PS3 (Killzone 2 & Resistance 2)

Who has the best platformers? = PS3 (LBP & R&C)

Who has the best puzzle games? = PS3 (Echochorme etc..)

Who has the best sport games? = PS3 ( I gave this to PS3 because it has the multiplats and the exclusives)

Who has the best action/adventure games? = PS3 (Uncharted anyone?)

Who has the best RPG games? = 360

The thing is i do agree that in this moment in time the 360 does have the better RPG's but if you look at every other category the PS3 wins.

So why is it that people are saying that the 360 is king of RPG'S and making it sound like RPG's are everything these days.

Driving is debatable... at least until GT5 is released. Motorstorm was one of the worst driving games i've ever plaed.

Shooters. Once again... two unreleased games. Of so far released games... 360 has PS3 beat stone cold.

Platformers. Braid likely beats R&C.  LBP has a chance to change the tide though.... when it comes out.

Puzzle games - Can't speak to this.

Best Sports games - PS3 really a dead draw though since the only difference is MLB the Show which is the best Baseball game. Sony's NBA game sucks compared to 2K sports one. However that's offset by the fact that a lot of sports games run better on 360.

Action/Adveture - A really wide open category, too hard to judge because of this... due to the ridiculious diversity and the fact that it's more of a catch all "i dunno" genre.

As for why people care so much about RPGs. It's because RPGS are a staple of the REALLY hardcore super nerd gamer... of which you are going to find on message boards about sales.

I mean look at the odd number of SRPG lovers on this board compared to how they sell mainstream.

I guess that that is wat this gen is plagued by, Sony fans making a bunch of reassurance topics in EVERY gaming forum (that i've been to).

... R u serious? MY GOD, I like Sony (just as much) as the next guy, but c'mon, people that make threads like this are embarrassing themselves and Sony fans. U DO know that u are arguing an opinion, and that is just borderline retarded, u know wat, I take that back cuz I'm pretty sure retarded people wouldn't argue with opinions. The only, ONLY category I can agree with u is the sports games because PS3 get's the multi plats from EA and 2k and they get their own studio's sports games which tips it in their favor.

Their fighter titles will be much stronger than their sports titles. I've played the exclusives NBA 09 title for the PS3 and it has more cracks in it than the NBA live franchise.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the Sony made NBA 09 and MLB 09 are horrible compared to the best (Nba 2k's) but I know a bunch of people that love them. I was just saying that because it's just more games in that genre. For example, if 360 gets (random number) 5 sports games per year, and Sony gets 7, Sony wins that genre because it's getting more, and for those like my friends that actually like their sports game (which is ludicrous to me), then those 2 extra games are important to them.

Has your friend played NBA 2k8? I have it on 360. You'll never be able to find it on 360 at your local gamestop. 2k7 sure..2k8 lol...yeah right. If he wants a solid simulation of NBA Basketball, he should get 2k8 on the PS3.

The only category that the PS3 can reasonably claim is Sports games.

If you want to talk about its strongest genre this gen it will be fighters, not sports.

I think PS3's strongest genre will be SRPGs.  Main reason i'm getting one.

Regular RPGs have fled, but PS3 has Disgaea 3 and Valkria Chronicles exclusively.  2 Must have games for a SRPG enthusiast in my opinion.

360's SRPGs so far have been all average so far... and Wii only has Fire Emblem.  Which... while amazing is just one game.

As much as I try to respect a person's opinion, it really gets to me when someone tries to push it as fact. I am of the opinion that the Xbox 360 is NOT the RPG console for various of reasons because of my personal preferences. And I will express those preferences but respect those who feel otherwise. And there is so much subjectivity in the OP's post. Let's assume that Uncharted is the best action/adventure game. There might be three in particular on the 360 that someone might argee that's not quite as good as Uncharted. BUT having those three might more than make up for Uncharetd being an exclusive. Just an example because I feel that this generation of console gaming is more splintered that previously generations while styles of gameplay have gotten more and more diverse.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

You listed a bunch of games that aren't even out yet.  We also thought Haze and Lair would be amazing, right?

Coming from someone who played a lot of Gran Turismo 4 and Forza 2, Forza is unquestionably better than Gran Turismo.  It may not look better, but it has much, much better racing physics.  It's just a driving simulation game instead of an arcade racing game.

The Wii has the best action/adventure games.

The 360 has the best sports games.  It plays better with Madden, which is huge.

The Wii or 360 has the best shooters -- personally, I like Metroid Prime 3 much better than Halo 3, for example, although I own both and have played them both significantly.  However, shooters would be pretty close since many of the best ones (CoD 4) are multiplat.  But for most, the 360 simply plays better.

Maybe in a year the PS3 will have a library that can match the 360's library.  But right now, it just doesn't.

It's funny how this is an argument about RPGs...yet you bring in other genres to help say the PS3 is better. ROFL.

This and quite a few of those games aren't even out yet.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Unreleased, unreviewed games don't count as best except in the mind of fanboys.

TheBigFatJ, where is the physics wrong on Gran Turismo?  I'm also pretty into racing games, and prefer GT over Forza.  But a couple of friends with 360s prefer Forza also.

The only thing I could think of with GT is that the handling differences between cars are quite exaggerated e.g. in an American muscle car, the back end slides all over the place really badly.  I've never driven one so can't compare with real life, but the Honda Prelude and Ford Focus seem pretty realistic.  There are a lot of driver aids that are on by default, but if you're after a simulator you can switch them off easily enough.

One other related point, is I couldn't see any equivalent to the Logitech G25 wheel for the 360.  I played Forza with a decent force feedback wheel, but it was no comparison to the G25.  Although I've never convinced any of my mates that GT is better than Forza, no-one has argued against the G25 :)

Forza and PGR are not even close to being as good as GT.  Forza doesn't have the graphics and the driving physics are just plain bad.  That is why a large "demo" will probably end up selling more than both Forza and PGR combined.

As for Halo 3.  The single most over hyped game ever.  The first Resistance is better, COD4 is way better, actually the first two Halo's were better
