HD is completely unnecessary. Still, true HD is only a matter of time. PS4/720 will probaly be capable of some stupidly high resolution like 2160p.

lol. I highly doubt that ;P I still believe HDTVs will still be locked at 1080p max. That's all they really need to do. How how do you want resolution to go? -_-

@Happy

Oh. That seems like...a problem kinda for all those people who want 1080p. But next gen I don't think we'll have this problem.

Actually it can go as high as 4320p within the next decade or so.

Quad Full High Defination 2160P or Ultra High Definition Video 4320p.

i think it will stay 1080p for quite a while for anything less 40' its quite nice.

Look at games from the beginning of last gen. Games like ICO had horribly low resolutions, and games like FFX didn't even fill a 480i screen. Fast forward to the end of last gen, where games like Shadow of the Colossus were full 480p, and games like God of War II could even go into a semi-HD mode.

Things will improve, don't worry.

Why would they go to 4320p though? >.> That's...insane. Not to mention uneccesary. I doubt the next gen consoles will even be at a resolution that high. 1080p and maybe some 720p games for the "Wii 2", 60 FPS, games look really great - that's my expectation for next gen. Besides...what would you make to support 4320p? Seriously.

That is excacly what this companies are after. The evolution in technology isn't determined by our needs but for their profits. So it is profitable for them to convince you that you need a 4320p UD(ULTRA Definition) TV to enjoy your games EVEN if they can not make that a reality but again convince you to believe them, you will jump this new boat in no time as an early adopter.

That is what happening right now, even if they did't maximise the output performance of the previous technologies they want you to jump ships so they will create a new market for them so they will have a new profitable cycle on market.

When the competition becomes to much to bear and grows too large to support them, resulting they do not make the profits that would please them, they will try to create new needs.

Thats the system is working for years now BUT i am not the type to fall for them try winning my hard working cash based on lies and frauds.

HD gaming its not a standar yet but believe me they try hard to make that happen because they have invested too much money on products that they support that idea. Its too soon and they know it. We can not change "ships" so quickly because practically the economic system can not allow it. We don't get paid all the same amount of money and most people can afford this changes, mainstream market is based on the majority of the people(gamers in this case) which are unable to follow this steps. So we are in a big gap between the bigger part of the market and the small market which can afford this jumps. The first group can not follow the second in the time limit they leave until the next jump,so the more quickly this jumps are made the far behind the mass market stay, in result gazzilions of dollars or euros of losses for the gaming industry and drop in quality for what we are paying to minimize the losses.

Thats why we need a big pause between this jumps take advantage that we have make them work better and when the new technology is affordable for the masses then WE ALL take the next step.Without viral marketing campains, lies, frauds to win a small piece of the pie.

But with this capitalistic system and the deadly competitions between this multinational companies care only for profits this plan is not an option.

The hell it will. From a Content Creation perspective, the HD transition has been and still is a total mess - heck, a good chunk of HD content is shot at sub-HD resolutions and then upscaled accordingly (HELLO DVCPROHD/HDV) nevermind the fact that due to costs/bandwith limitations some HD recording mediums still work at sub-digibeta color resolution (YUHU XDCAM). The electronics industry has been succesful pushing the masses towards the 1080p standard but it'll take years until the content is generally available at 1080p/50Mbit which is the distribution standard slowly being converged towards.

The ultra-high-blinding-resolution HD is decades away except for aplications that run exclusively computer generated graphics (decision centers, meeting rooms, scientific research, etc) - and ultra high resolution monitors for these aplications are already available and in use nowadays.

If anything, we'll see auto 3D TV's as the next step, which is logical since it shares most of the infraestructure with HD production. Heck, Philips has its auto 3D TV on sale already (good luck finding content for that, tho).

Careful now, without capitalism you wouldn't get a console, yet alone an HD one.

back on topic, I think these lies are a necessary evil for now but will improve as coding and tricks for both systems improve over this gen.

I would not be surprised if games like FFXIII come out supporting both a true 1080p and a SD mode.

Wanna bet on that? It'll take two years until I cash it in but it's money in the bank. FF13 will NOT render at 1920x1080.

All i know is that MGS4 is the greatest game ever. Who cares if it is not full HD. If anything, it just proves how useless those numbers are in reality.

I can put all my PC games in 1080p...does that make them better ? Hell no.
