Remember when Sega said it would sell 4.5 million and everybody laughed at them?

If only good games like Mario Kart Wii would sell as many copies like Sega's shovelware titles, the world would be a better place.

Don't you own a number of Sega's Wii titles?

I thought Sega was doing a pretty good job on Wii compared to other third parties. What Sega titles are supposed to be shovelware?

You two do realise it was RolStoppable who made the comment right? And you do know who features in his avatar?

Well, I thought he might have been being sarcastic, but I haven't really seen anyone call Sega's Wii games shovelware, so am a little confused be the post.

Plus, MK Wii has ridiculously good sales. I still had to look and see that it was Rol to know it was sarcastic, though.

So anyways, even if "about 10M" means 9.1M, and there's 1M in stores... The Olympics boost and the holidays will push it up to 12M or more.

And who knows if the game will have legs beyond this year. Could it sell 15M?

I openly mocked someone for predicting 10M sales of this game back when people were laughing at SEGA for predicting 4M... Oops.

Note on Mario 10-million sellers:

This is the 13th Mario game to sell 10 million copies. That's thirteen. I'm throwing in all the Super Mario Advance games and assuming that Mario Kart 64 has sold 130K copies on the Virtual Console, but I think that's fair enough.

Super Mario Bros. 45M+; NES, GB, GBA
Super Mario World 25M+; SNES, GBA
Super Mario Bros. 3 20M+; NES, GBA
Super Mario 64 20M+; N64, DS
Super Mario Land 18M; GB
New Super Mario Bros. 15M; DS
Super Mario Bros. 2 USA 12M+; NES, GBA
Mario Kart DS 11M; DS
Super Mario Land 2 11M; GB
Super Mario All-Stars 10M; SNES
Dr. Mario 10M; NES, GB
Mario Kart 64 10M; N64, VC

And now Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, with "about 10M" and counting.

It was 4 milion and the Olympic Games has yet to start ...

I'm expecting a marketing push from Sega and that this game will sell well next holiday season.

Yeah, I'd believe this. Its shipped numbers BTW (i.e. "Sega sold 10m").

At the shops I visit, its still one of the most heavily present titles on the shelves - and considering its DS & Wii - it gets a 2x boost from shipment numbers on the shelves.

A limited edition(?) "Green & Gold" edition of M&S has just been launched in Australia (for the Olympics), which means new stock (new packaging, etc) sent to every store. It comes with a special "skin" for the Wiimote (not sure about DS).

I think VG is undertracking the DS version some what - and even with 7.2m sold, and another 1m shipped of each DS/Wii version - and the new "Special" bundles hitting various countries... its got to be getting close to that 10m mark.

I'm actually surprised they haven't polished up the Wii version (online? better controls? etc) and re-released it as a "M&S Olympics DX" version in time for the Olympics.
