Forums - Sony Discussion - Movie Rentals Are Up

Netflix has blu ray movies so thats all i ever really used it for and the occasional instant play movie which is usually just some stand up comedy. I dont know why some people made it out to be such a big deal with the netflix partnership with 360. I honestly think that the Divx working on both PS3 and 360 is much bigger imo.

So these HD movies are likely 720p, right? They are only 6-7 gigs.

Also, $2 for episodes of TV shows seems ridiculous. Is that normal? It would cost you $44 for Buffy Season 2, for instance.

I am pretty sure it costs the same amount on LIVE.

The pricing here is pretty much exactly the same. Only difference is if you wish you watch an SD movie on PSN, you pay $2.99-$3.99. If you wish to watch an SD movie on LIVE you need to spend $6+ on 500MS points. Which honestly is the reason I no longer use it. I don't like being forced to pay more than I have to.

SD movies on 360 are priced 240-320 MS points depending on whether it is a new release or not.

Also, does Live allow the file transfer of purchases?

Do you mean as in watching as you download? If that is what you are asking, the answer is yes.

No, I mean with PS3 you can transfer movies you buy to the PSP or other portable devices. It's not just stuck on your PS3. I find that enticing even though it would also be nice to just leave the movie on the server since it doesn't take long to start.

No you can not transfer them at all. LIVE has rentals only, no option for purchase.

This is why regardless of what anyone says PSN movie service >  LIVE movie service. You are given alot more options.

Did microsoft say Universal/NBC/SciFi was exclusive? Sony has an obvious advantage with their own studio. That would be a funny battle considering they were on opposite sides of the HD war as well.

I know Sony is lacking some other studios but I wasn't sure if that was because some others were exclusive or not.

Euphoria: Thanks, that clears that up. I was fairly sure Live didn't allow transfer, but didn't know they had no purchse option.

This is precisely why I laugh everytime someone comments on the movie pricing. At least they give us the option.

As for Universal, Sci-Fi, NBC, etc... being exclusive, the answer again is no. There is no word on any of them being exclusive, Sony I believe stated in their conference they will be adding more studios to the video service.

These companies jumped on board with Sony and the BDA to bring their movies to Bluray, so I see no reason for them saying no here.

I remember reading an article June 27th I believe where they said no studios have signed with Sony for the PS3 service, now 2 weeks later they have a total 7 studios on board. Of course including Sony Pictures. I would think it is safe to assume more in the coming weeks.

Why wouldn't they? Their movies can actually be purchased on PSN. Which means alot more money for them.

Someone should do a comparison on which studios are available for PSN and XBL right now.

apparently the PSN video service has 300+ Movies and 1200+ TV Episodes

I think the Xbox Live service has 450 Movies, but it has also been around longer
