@ HappySquirrel

MikeB prefers the "Unbiased" opinions of people who are dependant on the PS3 being successful, rather than those "Biased" opinions of people who are independant of all platforms ...

This is why he so often quotes Sony employees (or employees of Sony partners) and refuses to quote Tim Sweeney or John Carmack who are considered (by most) the leading experts in the field.

Insomniac can do what they want, they are a third party. I prefer true expert opinions from those who have demonstrated that they yield the best end results with regard to the architecture they are discussing.

long time in development... enuff said

360 us basically a PC on the inside so it is easy for a formally PC only developer to develop for.

Not true. 360's architecture is closer to the Wii than to a PC.

Maybe you're thinking of the first Xbox?

The 360 has a clear distinguishing architecture compared to a PC. It has a PPC-like CPU (just like the Wii, but far more powerful), which is similar in architecture as used by past Amigas and Macs, but triple core and with additional capability. Some GPU approaches like the use EDRam is clearly a console like approach (PS2), the shared memory bandwidth sacrificing approach is more like a cheap low-end PC solution.

What makes it most like a PC is especially it's development environment, which uses many Windows originating technology. It's easier but not more powerful to the most talented coders to work with.

Overall I would say the console is closer to a PC than a Wii, certainly in terms of development approach and with regard to gaming capability.

Thank you for the usual blabbering but half of that has nothing to do with what we were talking about. I was just replying to ssj12's assertion.

I wanted to care about this but I can't.
This game wasted my money.

This isn't so surprising, as it came out so much later, but it's a prime example of how the 360 is still capable of being graphically competitive.

It's kinda surprising... I mean the PS3 Unreal Engine 3 was supposed to be optimized for PS3. Which you would hope would be at least equal to the 360 version regardless of the extra time.

The PS3 is supposed to be more powerful... so extra time should eventually not mean anything.

Kasz216, you have a very valid point.  This worry me about other multiplatform to be released.  If I finaly decide to buy a PS3 it will be not only for the exclusives but for the freedom and oportunity that I can choose the best games that are multiplatform.  If all comes to 90% Xbox360 I will need to evaluate more in depth my future purchases.

I believe the term "optimized" in regards to the UT engine on the PS3 should be used loosely -_- I wouldn't call it optimized at all. I'd say it runs without hitches, but optimized for the PS3 architecture is a lie. Take a look at most PS3 exclusive engines and they're far more impressive than anything UE3 has managed to show on PS3. If anything I'd say the UE3 engine is now "compatible" with the PS3 and "optimized" for the 360 -_-; Gears of War one looked better than UT3 on the PS3 in my opinion and Uncharted craps on both of them >_>; Uncharted being "optimized" of course for PS3 architecture.

Uncharted being "optimized" of course for PS3 architecture

They still have to (/had to) move a lot of their original Uncharted game engine over from the PPE to the SPEs though, but they are certainly getting there together with Insomniac and other partners.

IMO fully PS3 optimised games will take a while to be developed and game engines which truly tap the bulk of processing potential even more so.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Its really hard to take Eurogamer seriously.

Well yeah, I didn't mean fully maxing the PS3 :P Just intelligent use of the SPE's and what not. UT3 could be a million times better than what it currently is if it was taking full advantage of the architecture. Hell they're just now getting around to "thousands of on-screen enemies"... Heavenly sword did that a long ass time ago >_>; They've increased the draw distances.. like Insomniac's been doing since the PS2 days... TOD is proof of that pudding.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that so far UE3.whatever they're on now seems to be the most impressive engine on the 360, the "best looking gaems and enemii count" blah blah blah comes from UE3. Whereas on the PS3, that's definitely not the case >_>; UE3 is playing catchup with other companies for tech superiority in engine design. And that's proof enough that optimized for PS3, means obviously not optimized enough. Compatible yes, optimized... far from :/

aren't they the ones that said without MS hardcore gaming would be dead?
