Forums - Gaming Discussion - WTF!! Wiimote Rival Technology Expected to makes its way to PS3 and 360

I saw a clip on G4's Cinematech last night (ep aired within the last two weeks) of a Mad Catz "Motion Capture Glove" for the PS2 that was marketed with a nice-looking golf game. It appeared to be limited to that application, and it worked by tracking the hand motion instead of using a controller Wii-style (and much more cumbersome, it appeared that you had to put the gloves on and they were wired into the PS2!) But not a completely wrongheaded try at doing something along these lines.

Does anyone know if this thing actually came to market?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've seen that in the store...it's still around I think.  Doesn't interest me at all though...looks like too much trouble and money for just one game.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It's funny to read people that call others clueless, especially when they are clueless themselves, in the very field they think they are a master of.
I see countless and countless people thinking the wiimote is just a remote that you can put on any console like that, or that an add-on to a console can do everything the wiimote does.
Whenever I see a "gamer" say Sony or MS could just plug a wiimote like into their console, I immediately know he is pretty clueless about technology.
Making a wiimote like is just impossible for the Wii rivals, and this peripheral just have no chance at it.
The amount of technology involved is just too much to handle : Bluetooth controls and synchronisation, sensor bar, all the motion controls that have to be integrated in the console's OS, Mii storage, speaker/speech recognition(?), size/weight/design, and expansion port.
It's so well done that most people don't even see all this technology is packed in the wiimote: they're are clueless.

Let In2games release their nonsense, crash and burn.
These people should read the Blue Ocean strategy, so they realize they are doing several of the mistakes described in the book, before it's too late for them.
But it's funny anyway. I'd like them to release it, just to see all the anti-Wii people turn their vest on "waggle": great show confirmed.

Oh damn. I quoted the wrong post!!

The thing is if they try to make it work with every PS3/360 game, it will likely fail.

If they make it limited in games, and depend on other developers to make it work, it will likely fail.

If they make a series of games THEMSELVES, that are compatible, then it will likely work, the same way DDR and Guiter Hero work with their controllers, even if very few other games support those peripherals.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
