Forums - Nintendo - Switch 3: 03-03-33

It is way too early to be doing this, but what the heck?! Console gens seem to be getting longer and longer as tech advances slow down and as companies have begun pivoting to mid-gen refreshes instead of trying to get brand new consoles out every 5 years.

Switch went from 03-03-17 all the way to 06-05-25 (or 05-06-25, mind you) without a successor, so another 8 year gap before the next system isn’t that far out of the realm of possibility.

So what better date to release the third in this series of systems than on the 16th anniversary of the original Switch’s launch…and look at all of those beautiful 3s. Yeah, it’s far fetched and crazy talk, but it is a decent placeholder date as we start winding down the 2020s.

What do you think? Is 8 years too long to wait for the successor to the Switch 2? Are you hoping that we never get a Switch 3 and that instead Nintendo upends the tea cart once again and completely transforms the gaming experience? And just how much do you think the next Mario Kart will cost in 2033?

its never too early to do this

You can bet there are folks within Nintendo thinking of these things already.

This is pretty early, but let's talk about it.
If Switch 3 takes past Holiday 2032 to come out, it had better have a Switch 2 Pro. Even with Switch 2's specs, I don't want to wait nearly 8 years or more again on the same set of specs available for players.
Switch 3 as early as June 2032 could be nice, but March 2033 seems like the stretch release date.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Switch 2 does a Wii U and they release 2028 with the Nintendo AI brain chip.

SEGA, Sony, and Nintendo team up and release an all-new console. The DreamStation 64.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I do expect 2033 but by October-November instead of early in the year. The Switch to Switch 2 is a 8 year and 3 month gap so 8 years and 4-5 months would only be a bit longer and give them a holiday launch since I imagine they wanted it to be ready by the end of last year but couldn't make it for then so June is probably the earliest they can release it without it being an issue. The next gap being shorter would be surprising considering that the Switch 2 should age better than the Switch has so unless the system does a lot worse than expected holiday 2032 is the absolute earliest the next one could come out and assuming it's a big success that early seems unlikely.

i think the system is gonna last much longer than 8y. Not much tech that needs upgrading past Switch 2. Graphics are likely as good as Nintendo is interested in producing.

How much will the Switch 2 pro cost at launch? We're already feeling the funk of inflation on game prices for current and soon-to-be released consoles and games. I can't imagine what they will look like in four or so years.

While that is probably true, market saturation will also be a factor. If Nintendo has sold to nearly all available customers, regardless of advancements in “upgrading” technology, they will need to put out a new must have product to keep their investors happy.
