Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What will be the new gimmick of MK9?

Yes, we know of 24 players, but I doubt Nintendo stops there. My friend thought he saw a wonder seed, so we speculated. Since the seed changes the stage, what if Nintendo's way of showing off the new 2.1GB SSD read speed like Rift Apart for PS5 is to get a wonder seed, and it changes up the stage on the fly without loading, even if temporary.

They only showed a teaser so of course they are not showing all the cards yet. What are your guesses?

I'd just love for them to open it up more to non-mario stuff, specifically add in non-mario series items. Make it something closer to Nintendo Kart.

That Wonder Seed thing changing the levels would be pretty cool, but only if it was for a specific Mario Wonder level, in which there were several different ways it could change the course each to you play it.

Battle royal? Characters from more Nintendo franchises? Open world? I'm guessing

Hey that idea with the wonder seed changing up the stage/race track sounds awesome.

I was thinking more on transformations on the kart.

Whatever they choose - I just care about the following

-More Mario characters (probably add Kirby to the mix)

-More new stages (and bring back older stages like MK8D did)

-More items

-More customization items for the kart

-The ability to modify what items you can use in single player mode (like they did with Online for MK8D)

-Story mode/open world mode like Diddy Kong Racing

Arlo just said that a spectator mode is a possibility he'd like to see, namely having a character that you spectate from the sides and can walk around, and use emotes while watching the race. It's not a bad gimmick as an extra way to experience the game.
I think having a campaign more advanced than Mission Mode in Mario Kart DS is a possibility. I don't really know if that counts as a gimmick, but it's a hook.

There will be probably a lot of specific items to cater to the 24-player limit and maybe some number 9-related gimmick item.

Also yeah, the wonder seed thing seems possible if confirmed.

Copying what Smash did and doing a Mario Kart Ultimate sort of thing could be really cool and boost excitement for it significantly.

Transforming karts (water?) and Circuits based on other popular Nintendo IP.

Mission mode like DKR would be fantastic. That (and vehicle options besides just karts) was the thing that really separated DKR from MK64 back in the day. I think it's high time after so many years that Mario Kart finally steps up and gets a huge upgrade to the series and adds a missions mode.

If they do 24 kart races, mission mode, and integrate a much deeper level of other Nintendo IP into MK9 that would really be a big step up from everything that has come before. Especially with the next Smash likely many years away, Mario Kart is gonna be THE defining multiplayer game on Switch 2 for most of the gen and it's obviously gonna be one of the major enticements for gamers to buy the system in the first year so I really hope Nintendo is pulling out all the stops so that it's not just another iteration of a really fun kart game but something truly impressive and new for the series.

They should keep that for Mario Kart 10/X unless this one is that.

Not sure if they officially consider MK Tour as MK9.
