Forums - Nintendo Discussion - When will the Switch 2 launch?

It'll launch...

May-June 20 71.43%

July-August 1 3.57%

September-October 6 21.43%

November-December 1 3.57%

Total:28

So with the Switch 2 finally revealed the biggest thing left other than the games it's getting this year is learning the launch date in the big April 2nd direct. There's been speculation about May-June so about then is what I'm expecting since the original Switch did come out only somewhat under two months after its big event. Middle of the year would certainly be an interesting launch period though if that happens it's probably out of necessity rather than them specifically wanting it then the whole time.

May perhaps. Doesn't really seem like you need months and months of build up for this, this system is about as straight forward as it gets. It's a Switch ... 2. This is not something that needs like 8 months of explanation or lead up.

I've been saying January reveal and May-June (or at absolute latest July) launch since they announced like last Spring that they had to push the launch back to 2025. And the reveal was right on time, so I figure I'm still right about the launch as well. Only thing I'd say at this point is that with such a tiny reveal today and the details on the system and games not coming until April, I now expect it to hit towards the end of the range, in June rather than May, and probably late June, or maybe even first half of July. As I don't think they'll launch it only the next month after they give consumers the details on the system for the first time. So June seems like the most likely option at this point, whereas before I had May at more likely than June.

You don't need much time to launch the console after its big unveiling. I voted May-June with June as what I have in mind.
I don't picture them releasing it the final full week of June and it will surely be on a Friday. That means June 6, 13, or 20.
I really hope it doesn't wait until November, and December is pretty much off the table as a worldwide launch in December is later in the shopping season than it needs to be.

May 8 is the earliest now. March 2025 is cooked officially. Longest living system without a sucessor (expect the GB) kicking the 360s balls

Late May or June.

Perfect for a summer purchase.

My math may be wrong on exact months to each NA launch, but here is the past:

NES: October 18, 1985
SNES: August 23, 1991 - 70 months
N64: September 29, 1996 - 61 months
Gamecube: September 14, 2001 - 60 months
Wii: November 19, 2006 - 61 months
Wii U: November 18, 2012 - 72 months
Switch: March 3, 2017 - 52 months

Even if Switch 2 had launched back in January 1 it would have been one of the longest Nintendo gens at like 93 (nearly 94) months.
This is unprecedented and thus past gen lengths just do not apply. My expectation is November, so 104 months.

Why am I comparing console gens and not the handheld gens? This is Nintendo's flagship, gens should be closer to the flagship consoles than the handhelds. Even if Covid had not occurred and given us the current results, I suspect it would still have been one of the longest Nintendo gens, say November 2023 at 79 months.

Late May, or anytime during June. Possibly July? (def not August…Nintendo always avoids that month for some reason.)

I would love if it came out before May. But the hands on events run till June, and I wouldn't expect it to launch before those end. Unless it's a staggered launch.

The hands on events are happening first in early April for NA/EU and a bit later in Japan/Asia. Maybe they are launching first in US/EU since they figure they already have Japan on lock.
