Forums - Nintendo Discussion - It's inexcusable if Switch 2 doesn't have boosted backwards compatibility

Does Switch 2 need a boost mode for BC?

Yes 19 35.85%

Meh 7 13.21%

No 7 13.21%

I want it, but it's not a big deal. 20 37.74%

Total:53

We know Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility. It seems like such an obvious confirmation from Nintendo, but it's never been a given with video game platforms.

Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S have shown us that backwards compatibility can boost games massively. Last-gen games can start to seem like current gen ones. Boosting last-gen games would be a new thing for Nintendo, so it's not a given.

There is a rumor that Nintendo showed a boosted Breath of the Wild on Switch 2 to devs behind closed doors. But again, that's a rumor.

I will be very disappointed if few to any Switch games get a boost on Switch 2. It has to happen.

I don’t give a shit if the graphics don’t change but I would love to see games have a FPS boost

If not a visual boost, a performance boost would be nice.

Games like Pokemon Scarlett/Violet could use a FPS boost.

Honestly, I'm just thankful we'll have b/c at all and I'm fine with that. b/c confirmation was what I was waiting for and I'll be getting a Switch 2 day 1 (or year 1 if I cant get it day 1).

I could care less. I mean I assume any framerate drops would automatically disappear right, so that'll be fine for those few times where a game slows down, can't say I've experienced that very often though on Switch? Don't need any sort of graphical enhancements though, and that would require all developers to revisit their games anyways so forget that, focus on making new games.

Why are we preemptively getting upset about something here?

Maybe it didn't need its own thread I guess and was better in the hype thread.

But backwards compatibility is a pretty interesting topic and boosted Switch games on Switch 2 could be a game-changing experience.

I excuse them. No problem.

I am guessing any boosts will just be to make games hit their targets

I don't think Zelda botw and totk will be running at 60fps but they will be stable 30

Better performance would be great, but generally I don't buy new systems to play old games, so I wouldn't be too upset if there is no enhancement for BC.

Well, I'm still happily playing PS3 games on PS3, because I still have unplayed PS3 games, so... no, I just want backwards compatibility, and everything on top of that is just a plus. And to be clear, I'm happy with the PS3 games, it's having to have a PS3 in my living room that I'm unhappy about.
