I never got the appeal about GTA so I'm not playing it but there is no doubt it's the biggest gaming franchise right now. I'm curious to see what Rockstar accomplished after so many years

Will it target PS5/Series or they will make it cross gen?

I'm hoping: 1) it looks good 2) it's releasing same day on PC and consoles.

I got the last one pretty soon after the PC release, but I don't really feel excited for this one. Not really sure what they could show to change that, but otherwise I probably won't get it until maybe a sale way down the line (still haven't gotten RDR2).

The fact that they're confirming a trailer the month before it premieres makes me think the game isn't more than three years out. It's not improbable for it to launch in another year or two either.

In the likely event GTA VI launches early 2027 or before, I don't see a cross-gen launch. I really don't see the next consoles coming out before Q4 2027, and they could take until Q4 2028.

Bet your bottom-dollar it will get PS6/Xbox 5 versions eventually. GTA V has been on three generations of consoles, after all.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 67 million (was 60 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

GTA5 was released less than 2 years after it was first announced, exactly the same gap for 4.

I'd guess 6 is pretty far along in development and targeting a 2025 release.

I was expecting it to launch next year actually. But you're right, if it's releasing after 2024 there is no point in cross gen version

Ok. I totally didn't realize you meant Xbox One and PS4. It really should not be on those. Not only would it mean the devs would have to worry about launching on two generations, but also from a business standpoint it gives yet another reason not to move past Xbox One and PS4 in the eyes of customers. There's been tons of support on Xbox One and PS4, AAA games should more or less die out on it after 2024. Smaller mainstream games and indies can keep coming out for as long as it makes sense.

Frankly, this studio is not what it used to be. Both GTAV and RDR2 were huge disappointments to me.

That's certain. Also a PC version after (and maybe Switch 2 version). When PS7/Nextbox releases, they will have a definitive version right on the launch day
