Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nice place to hang out (in a virtual gaming world)

I recently came across an interesting idea where groups of developers have opted to replace Zoom/Teams calls with virtual gatherings in serene online environments from games like Red Dead Redemption 2 (I guess that was the game that was mentioned in the post). Instead of gaming, they use their avatars to interact and discuss work-related matters while enjoying the virtual ambiance of places like sitting around a comforting fire or sharing a meal together. This concept seems appealing, especially considering that many developers enjoy gaming.

As the CEO of a small startup with six developers and plans to expand in the future, I find this concept intriguing and worth proposing. However, I would prefer not to spend company funds on purchasing paid games like RDR2 for each team member, as that might not align well with our investors. XD

Moreover, I wouldn't want to suggest that the team invest their own money in something not everyone might enjoy.

Therefore, I'm seeking suggestions for a visually appealing, free-to-play PC game (maybe an MMORPG) that offers beautiful virtual spaces for people to socialize and hang out online. The game should have options that allow players to avoid challenges that could disrupt these social gatherings (as in, the get together places in the game would not be subject to raids and such).  ;)

I'm curious to hear the community's recommendations, and I appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you!

So, I started to check some videos about Free MMORPGS, but since I never played any of them, it's still hard to get a good idea.

I see an issue with loading screens taking too long, and basically the avatars creating a distraction from the meeting.

The only way I see it improving upon a zoom meeting is if everyone had VR so you could gesture and talk in a way that was like being together in real life.

I can only think of environments from games you have to pay for I'd like to meet in.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.

Sounds like you are reinventing "Second Life". The problem is that if you have a real job, the last thing you want is all the avatar nonsense.

It's bad enough going to meetings. It's bad enough when people haven't prepared for the meeting. It's bad enough when people can't clearly express their thoughts.... the last thing we need is some 3D BS getting in the way of doing the work as quickly as possible.

This seems relevant:

Beyond that, maybe find/make the right lobby in Fortnite or VRchat (vr not required).

Interesting. This might be just it. The game was part of the recent Nintendo Direct, wasn't it?
