Forums - Movies & TV - Babylon 5: The Road Home (Trailer)

Babylon 5 is my all time favorite show and it came as a surprise to me when this showed up in my youtube recommendation this morning as I had no clue they was making a animated movie.  Trailer have me super psyche as it actually look good from what I saw in trailer.  I really hope it end up being good and it a start of good new content in the Babylon 5 universe.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing this as much as I am?

In March I watched the show for the first time. I binged it but didn't make it all the way through season 5. It just dragged and dragged. I liked those 4 seasons. Ask me again in a few months as I am still tapped out for a while. If I get the knack again I may check out those 90s movies and may look more into this. It just felt like when S4 was done not much more needed to be said within the universe.

If I remember correctly, they were originally going to do 5 seasons but the publishing company told them season 4 will be their final season during the making of season 4 so they cut off a number of eps from season 4. Then near the end of season 4, they got funding from a different company to make a season 5 so season 5 is basically filled with missing eps from season 4 and some new originals.

Overall Season 5 is very meh. Some eps are great but a lot of them are skippable imo.

I still enjoyed season 5 but of the 5 seasons it is the weakest one.  What happened there is during filming of season 4 they was afraid they would not get to do a season 5 so they made sure to wrap up major story points in season 4.  They probably would of paced it a bit different if they knew at the time they would be allowed to do a season 5.  Not going to give spoilers but if you finish season 5, the last episode was actually film with season 4 but they replaced it with the one you saw after they picked up season 5.

Is this them testing the waters for a live action revival, or is this all we can realistically expect? Because if it's the latter then... *sigh*. If it's the former then I'd be tempted to watch it to help get a new live action series.

I know they were trying to reboot into a new series on CW but varying reports and rumors say it might be dead or in development hell. Who knows for sure? Your theory is probably a good one tho.

Hm, I watched the show for the first time in 2010. It became one of my favorites. I like that they're reintroducing the world, but wish they chose a more interesting plot to do it. Time-traveling plots have become really boring to me.

Many of the original cast have died in the past years so a simple live action revival was never in the books. Rumours of "More Babylon 5 / Crusade" have been floating around for years.

I really liked Babylon 5, despite the many obstacles that were thrown at JMS (even season 2 already was in danger of being canceled so he had to devise a scheme to end the storyline season by season ending. Even season 5 was excellent, showing how characters would cope with life after the big war (you didn't think the war would be lost after builing it up for 4 seasons?). It was and still is the only sf show that tells one storyline over 4/5 seasons. It is also the only sf where there are no "cardboard" villains, everyone had a logical reason to do what s/he did.

I've read about the animated movie being in the cans for weeks. I'm disappointed about the childish quality of it, though. Looks like 2d cardboard cutouts. I think I read that Bruce Boxleitner was a driving force behind the B5 revival, together with JMS. I'll watch the movie since there were quite a few loose ends unanswered at the end of the show(s).

I don't even know what this is despite the fact that I was kind of a junky for these type of series back then ...

I rather have Battlestar Galactica back, but enjoyed Babylon 5 as well. No interest in an animated version though. I wish Disney would go back to animation and sci-fi would stick with live action!

TV Sci-fi kinda died for me since streaming took over. Still no The Expanse S5 for blu-ray, seems S4 is the end... All sci-fi seems to be spread out over different streaming services nowadays, very annoying. So I'm reading more again. If you want good sci-fi, Peter F Hamilton is amazing. The Salvation series is a real page turner and would make the best sci-fi series ever imo. But very costly, Hamilton does not dream small :)
