What's the best The Dark Pictures Anthology game (so far)?

Man of Medan 1 25.00%

Little Hope 0 0%

House of Ashes 2 50.00%

The Devil in Me 1 25.00%

Total:4

Hey guys. I'm starting "The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan", and... Well, this is actually my second playthrough. I first played it in 2021, and I remember not being satisfied with the ending I got, so I'm doing it again. It's a very cool game where your choices determine the fate of the characters. Usually this kind of game have a lot of cutscenes and follow an "Adventure" style. But there are some with lots of action gameplay.

This is a game where you spend most of your time watching cutscenes and making dialogue choices. This kind of game usually gets a "love or hate" situation. I have a friend that refuses to play Cinematic games and Visual Novels because he says "It's not a game if you just watch". But to be honest, I kinda like it. You know, sometimes I just want to sit back and enjoy a good story.

Do you like Cinematic games? Or you're that kind of person who says "If I want to watch something, I would watch a movie"?

Played few of them, but I like. Detroit is really good

I'm still missing that one.

Played both Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls when they came for PC.

Tales from the Borderlands Telltale (Not the iffy new one) on a writing perspective is still amongst the most fun comedy-adventure game ever made in the genre.

Sure the choices in Telltale's games never mattered as much in the end, but it was for sure an excellent ride.

I enjoy them, but not a big fan of the dialog / action choices affect the outcome style games. Too often it means transitions that don't really work and situations that don't make a lot of sense. It ruined Life is Strange True Colors for me. If you want to tell a story, have the balls to tell that story! It can be done well, I did enjoy Heavy Rain, Beyond two Souls and Detroit become human a lot.

And currently the cinematic story telling is what is keeping me going in God of War. I was about to give up on the game but then warmed up to Freya's story and the game became really good for me. Now I'm looking forward to the next 'exposition' and just play it on "give me story" (and still die) not bothering with collecting gear, favors and other busy work.

Cinematic games are nothing like movies. I lose focus and drift off when watching a movie. Cinematic games keep my attention much better.

That happens since The Walking Dead Season 1.

I remember someone at Telltale Forums saying that the choices don't change much the stories because that would make a possible sequel really hard to create.

Still sucks, though. But as a Telltale fan, I'm still excited for The Wolf Among Us 2.

I do like them, but the amount I'm willing to pay for them is significantly less that I'd pay for other types of games.

Not especially. I don't mind occasional cinematics at critical points in the game, but I was otherwise happy to leave the cinematic game behind in the "multimedia PC" era of the early-mid 90s.

I enjoy them once in a while, The Quarry and Until Dawn are my favourites so far. 8 think the dark picture anthology games are decent enough, but definitely a nudge below.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

If you count Life is Strange and The Walking Dead then yeah.

Loved Life is Strange though have no desire to play the spinoff or sequel, it was a complete story to me.
