Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony, Tencent Increase Stake in FromSoftware

Sony now owns 14% of the Japanese company, while Tencent, via its Sixjoy subsidiary, now owns 16% percent.

In the announcement of the deal, Kadokawa said FromSoftware "will aim to proactively invest in development of more powerful game IP for itself to strengthen FromSoftware's development capabilities and will seek to establish a framework that allows the expansion of the scope of its own publishing in the significantly growing global market".

"In addition to these purposes, for an increase of the number of users in the global market for game IP that FromSoftware creates and develops, FromSoftware decided to conduct the Third-Party Allotment to Sixjoy within the Tencent Group, which has strength in its capabilities to develop and deploy mobile games and other network technologies in the global market including China, and SIE within the Sony Group, which has strength in its capabilities to deploy IP in games, videos and various other media in the global market, concurrently and separately."

Wow, Tencent is scary me right now. close eye on them.

Cute and honest Sega Saturn fan, also noone should buy Sega grrrr, Sega for life. The reason I'm chaotic to few 3rd party developers is because I'm protecting Sega and also I lack skill to get really hot girl I really want. also few devs deserve it for making bad game's personal experiences, looking at Ghost Blade HD the shmup or Fighting EX Layer. My standards are too high for genres I play. KOF 13 > Fighting EX layer gameplay.

Best outcome would be for Sony to buy them up before Tencent does.

Kadokawa owns From Software, but they operate separately. That's all that is saying.

And Kadokawa doesn't own FS wholly any more. They own ~70%.

Tencent and Sony clashing for acquisitions like:

Depends more Sony influence might lead to some internal pushing for exclusive deals. Less risk involved for that if Tencent remains the second biggest holder of stocks.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'd rather nobody buys them up, because everyone deserves to play their games.

That said, if Sony bought them up I wouldn't be too chuffed. They are a lovely match if you ask me. I still think Xbox should get From's games too. PC as well. I think ideally we have basically what we have, an independent studio making games for everyone where Sony (and sadly Tencent, nobody likes Tencent) has some say and clout.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360
